Cyclocross - LBS in Washington DC area with CX expertise?

Hi everyone. I'm complete and total newb when it comes to any type of road/cx biking, so I'm looking for shop in the Northern Virginia/Metro area that specializes or is at least knowledgeable in cyclocross. I've recently stumbled upon the sport and it looks like a total blast. I want to play! The ability to fit me to a frame is probably more important and difficult because I'm 6'7'', thus my interest in finding a competent shop. Any recommendations on stock frames that might be able to accommodate my lankyness. The shops around me sell Surly, Specialized, Salsa, Bianchi, and a few other brands I forget. I'm trying to keep the budget around or under USD 1300. I've no problem with going used other than I have no idea what to look for frame geometry/fit wise.

Heck I dont know if I'll be able to fit on any cross bike. Are there any local frame builders you would recommend in case that happens?

Conte's is the best shop around in my opinion. They are more a high end road/tri shop but carry CX. There's located in Ballston on Wilson Boulevard near Glebe.

You also might check with Bonzai near Fairfax. The owner is about your size and he's extremely experience and does Ironman length tri's. While they don't carry CX's, he can give you lots of advice and could order what you need.

The Bike Lane in Reston is staffed by guys who ride a lot of MTB/CX

The Bike Rack in DC puts on cross clinics and races, so I'd bet they're somewhat in the know on CX bikes. (I've never been in there.)

short blond kid who works at city bikes adams morgan is a good cross racer. knows his stuff.

I've had good luck with the Spokes Etc. shop in Alexandria. Everyone that I've met there has been knowledgeable and helpful. They have specialize in Specialized, Trek, Salsa and Surly, and last time I was there they had a good number of TriCrosses. Ask for Lou.
