Hey Ted, I hope to do a similar ride this summer except I plan on going ultra lightweight by not bringing camping gear and staying in hostels instead. I figure my packing list will pretty much be clothes, bike parts/tools, food, maps, and a couple gadgets like phone and camera.

I was also going to take Amtrak back. How accommodating of bikes has amtrak been for you in the past?

amtrak is fine, you have to pay 20 bucks for a box, but only the pedals have to come off (box is bigger than a normal bike box).

hostels are a good idea, except they are far apart and prone to being sold out. Im going ultralite as well, but with a lite tent/bag. ( one could use a bivy) Im leaving on april 11th if interested
