Brad Pitt Says Men May Start Wearing Skirts After 'Troy' :D
"Men will be wearing skirts by next summer. That's my prediction and proclamation," he said with a laugh. "The film answers to both genders. We were going for realism and Greeks wore skirts all the time then."

I was at the bike shop with a female friend and she pointed out the skirt biking shorts thing. I was highly amused but now I'm wondering if they'll start showing up in the men's clothing rack soon.

I once saw a talk show about 20 years ago that had as a guest a virile, handsome bearded man--wearing an ankle-length dress (very conservatively styled, too.) He was not ashamed and predicted other men would start doing the same.

:D

What do you mean will happen? Not been to Kings Cross or Fortitude Valley lately?

Looks like He's predicting that his movie can manipulate men into wearing 'em. Just my impression. Hollywood is just too pompus (always awarding themselves etc).

When I was going to college in Hawaii, I used to work as a server at a Polynesian restaurant for some time. We (men) were required to wear Polynesian traditional skirt-looking dress. (called lava-lava) I found it really weird first but got used to it soon. I guess being in that cultural environment helped me feel it was a normal thing to do. But, I doubt I could walk out on the street wearing it now.

Men should wear dressed we have no hips to hold up pants. Plus no one would want to look up our dress (G)

Amen! The Scottish wore kilts or what some call "skirts" for hundreds of years. Many still do.

Then he needs to get out more. If he did he would see that in a number of places it's already happening -- albeit perhaps not quite in the same style as what the ancient Greeks wore. In anycase, I'm with Allister, do any of us really care what a puppet says? Heck, I haven't even bothered to click on the link yet.

I have a sport kilt that I use hanging around the house and used post race when my asperations were higher. Very comfortable, plenty of breathing room.

I would think a bigger indication of men wearing skirts would be the sudden popularity, amoung men, of makeup, nail polish, hip huggers and other traditional feminine accesories.

If no one cared what a puppet said, Edgar Bergen and Shari Lewis would have had no visible means of support.

you beat me to it but we have several customers who come into our shop that wear them. They are made up the street and from what I hear they can't make them fast enough.

I really want a utilikilt, actually. I am finding it hard to justify the $130 asking price though for a denim kilt. Ouch!!

I agree with the puppet comment...who needs 'em. That Edgar guy is dead and Shari ain't far behind. A kilt like pictured previously looks like a lot of extra wind resistance to me.

Throw in Captain Kangaroo, Wenchell Mahoney, and Bob. What about that thriller of the 70's with the dummy that got the guy to kill people (not Chucky).

I'm all about the Utilikilt. I'll be in one when I can afford it. That said, I'm a little skeptical about some of the pics on the site...I mean, would you really want to be doing arc welding in a kilt? I wouldn't...I've got enough ruined jeans from welding to be very wary of that.

A much lower priced but very well regarded alternative would be the Mountain Kilt made by Mountain Hardwear. Runs about $50 I think and if it's like anything else made by Mountain Hardwear, it'll last through several apocalypses (or would the plural be apocali?).

You're all WAAAAY off base here. The only puppets that ever had anything to say that was worthwhile listening to was these guys.

The samoan police wear 'skirts'. I guess lavalava might be the right word, or something close to it. Those sarongs for men were kind of popular here a few years back.

I love those type of skirts myself (for ladies)I have a couple with nice bright prints that I wear in the summer when it's really hot, and they're so cheap. The cotton is light and really comfortable. I can see why they'd be popular in countries where it's hot and humid. THey don't think of it as 'gay' like we do. They think of it as the normal, practical thing. Why should men suffer in the heat?

Like a moron, I wore my tight black jeans today in the hot sunshine. I'm getting a pair of baggy shorts so I can catch that cool breeze, too!

From what I have read, earrings were a masculine accessory before they became a feminine one.

Shhh! Don't say that too loud just yet. Queenslanders haven't quite come to terms with cycling pants yet (especially if they happen to be red). I think it will be quite a while before they're ready for men in skirts.

The black jeans story makes me think of a neighbor. He lives across the street a few houses down, and I call him "Mr Miserable." He's this tall, skinny guy who always looks grim, miserable and depressed, no matter what he's doing. He actually makes me think of Lerch.(YOU RANG??) And he wears the worst clothes- everything dark colors, including this black raincoat that makes him look like he's in the Trenchcoat mafia. Everything in black, but he has no style. And I don't think he owns a pair of shorts or sneakers. NO matter what the weather, he wears black jeans and these black oxfords. Even on warm humid days, he's out in the yard in those jeans and oxfords. Maybe if he dressed a bit more comfortably he'd be less miserable! He really looks weird in this neighborhood of yuppie parents, cheerfully pushing their kiddies around in strollers. I really think he should get visit from the "What not to wear" show or the "QUeer guys." Needless to say, he's not exactly into sports, where he'd have to go out in the sun.
