Hi All:

I recently received a Dahon D7 Speed. So this has opened up a whole new demision to bike riding for me. I have been looking for a portable bag to transport it, but no luck. I like the canvas if at all possible. There seems to NOTHING out there, except from the dealer itself. Does this mean someone needs to become creative and make a great bag for us cyclists?

I am just very frustrated with the whole thing. It is very simple and I can find what I am looking for. I tried the Downtube people to see if their bag would work and it will not. So I am at wits end. My DH thinks I am nuts for being on the computer this long looking for a bag.

Thankyou,
Red Rock

Hi Red Rock
welcome to the fold

we do have the Dahon El Bolso bags ..I like them but than I am also selling them .... Its weird with bags .... some folks like them cheap and barely there .... some like them super durable with all the fixings... maybe with rolls and lockable ..lol its hard to find one size fits all ..literally and figuratevly

Some folks again have no problem carrieing a dahon in the El Bolso .... some have a regular trash bag and they push the bike and throw the trash bag over it ...

and the oportunities are endless ..lol

Hellow Red Rock and Welcome! :welcome:welcome:welcome

You caught me at a good day for a discussion of bags for folding bikes. I am just finished drafting a slipcover and bag patterns for my Brompton. I have both made and used purchased bags for all my folding bikes. For more information, see below:

http://www.geocities.com/folder_fanatic/SecurityDirectory.html (http://www.geocities.com/folder_fanatic/SecurityDirectory.html)

My Directory will take you to all I have previously written about both making your own or purchasing alternatives I use for bags and slipcovers for all my folders.

My "Creative Projects For You And Your Folding Bicycle" set has ideas, photos, patterns, and instructions on bags for folding bikes.

I hope you find this material informative about locating and even making your own bags (or have someone else make one for you).

Unless you are required to use a bag (ie by your local transit agency) I think it will be easier to transport without the bag.

At best it will add 10 pounds to your luggage and at worst you'll simply be wrapping the bike in plastic. It's a lose lose situation.

After 4 months multi-modal commuting, I finally was asked by Metro employees to bag my bike. I found this bag and bought it. It's a large, mesh sports ball bag. It is 32" wide and 36" deep. The 32" wide should be enough for my Dahon, which is 30" long. I am hoping I can literally pull the bag over the bike from the top down. Will report back how well it works. With shipping this was a $13 bag.
