Bike has 7 speed cassette and double chainring. I have just replaced the rear derailleur and chain. Front derailleur shifts perfectly. The rear shifts perfectly while on the small chainring, but not on the big chainring. Rear seems to be getting stuck in the same gear in the middle (3rd). Any ideas?

Is the chain too short?

Sounds like it could be the chain length. If it were too short the der would simply not make it past the cog in question.

could be either chain length or der. i would say chain though. on my mountain bike the der is too short so you cant ride in the big ring and the big cog (not that there is really a reason to) otherwise it just jams and you cant pedal anymore.

I would bet that your derailleur hanger is bent .I had the same problem with an eight speed drive line. You can get a shop to line it up for cheap, cost me 5 bucks. I would not try it yourself it will drive you up a wall trying to get it right.
