Nope. Most of us are wanabees with expensive bikes, powermeters and charting software. I like that...Its got a certain frediness to it.

And the 5's are slower than the Master's 35+. I know this because after being shelled 10 miles into my own ballistic event, me and another 35+ refugee latched onto the back of the 5 field just to get the ride in. Riding on the back of the 35+ was begging God for an oxygen mask. Riding on the back on the 5's was flicking buggers.

Pablo got 5th in that 5 race for the second week going. Good show kid.

P.S. They don't call it Horsesh!t Hill for nothing. It even smelled like horsesh!t today (damp road).

P.P.S. Racing @ 25-35 mph in the pitch black sucks. The race started pre-dawn (God forbid they wait ten extra minutes) and there were sections with NO illumination. That was spooky. It will be a little better each week. This DST in March is really stupid.

All things considered, great job. I ran into the winner's lead out guy @ Piermont Bicycle @ about 9AM. I look at this dude, who is built like he could have led Tom Boonen out @ the Tour of Flanders, and suddenly the over-my-head nature of 35+ racing became crystal clear.

Oh well. There's always next week. Maybe the new cable routing will help.

I wish I had a video of Gary coming up to me after the race, giving me an attaboy pat on the back and almost knocking me to the tarmac. That had to be classic.

Sorry, Incorrect.

I've never seen it like it was this AM. There were a couple of dicey stretches of 100+ meters where you couldn't see the road surface at all. Street lights must have been out. It really was spooky.

He was in our race? The guy who won is from the g-island, and had team mates that were virtually useless.

He claimed to be the winner's 'lead-out man'. I'll take your word for it, I was riding on the back of the 5 field and we crossed a few minutes after your race ended.

Actually that was kind of cool, even if you get shelled in your race you can get a workout by latching onto another, I think if you lay low and stay out of everyone's way you're not impeding anyone's racing.

It was quite strange, I really don't remember that from last year's pre-dawn starts, had to involve dead street lamp bulbs. Hard to analyze in the dark @ 30 mph when you're praying not to crash.

I don't actually race with my Power Meter, it just tells me I should have gotten shelled on Lap 1 instead of Lap 2.

Don't confuse Schwag with Serious Training. I don't.

Today's race was a complete Shellfest, I think about 25-30% of the field got shown the back door. Hey, better workout than if I had stayed in bed. Ouch.

I'm pretty sure that was the 5's that were dropped. At the finish, the main field was only about 10 guys.

Me and this other dropee were just riding along chatting about what total pieces of cycling **** we felt like, generally reveling in some constructive Sunday AM Self Loathing. Then there was a small group of like 4 riders. They had a huge gap on the peloton that followed about two mins later. We jumped on the back of the peloton. I couldn't really tell you if that was the 4 race, the 5 race, or the Wussy race, but it was more my speed, and we generally sat in the cheap seats in the back just to get a workout until the end.

I get the feeling the UCI Pro race might have been slower than the first 1.5 laps of that 35+ race this weekend. Man those guys were just friggin flying.

Who was driving that train g? Astana? Cervelo TT? The Lotto boys?

If all the races are that fast I might have to hang 'em up or go race with the 3/4's. I can always hang in the bunch but that second time up that Harlem hill the elastic did snap for me over the top. Oh well. It was one helluva of a workout. And this is why I don't have an HRM or PM in races. It would have only told me that I should have died near the top of that hill just before I got shelled.

Not from me, I'm binary; win or loss. I was just pointing out that the 35+ is faster than the 5s.

It was dark. I couldn't see my bike computer, my gears, or the road surface. My pal C. Lane would have advised me 'If you didn't want to get dropped you should have pedaled harder'.

Besides, why would that make me feel bad? My guess is that I was turning the 53 x 21 at about 90 rpms, hence my ejection. But it's just a theory. Next time I can always try a 39 x 14. I don't know how many guys got shelled in that race, but I'm confident that me and the dude who latched onto the other race weren't the only ones.

I was joking. I needed a Magic Ring on Sunday. The problem wasn't with the gearing on my bike, it was with the watts in my motor.
