Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Well the saga of my wifes bike continues.....
She keeps complaining that the seat is uncomfortable, although her bike is on the trainer, and has been there since we got the trainer, I have been the only one using it. We got a decent saddle (the saddles the most expensive part on the bike now), as the one on it, was a hunk of junk, I think the saddle is okay, now looking at it from an angle I don't normally look at a bike from, I noticed the saddle is listing slightly to starboard, so I took it off, and tried putting it back on, I think the problem is the clamp that is attached to the top of the chromed steel gas pipe post. Not sure whether I should look for another clamp or put on a modern AL post. The clamp may be cheaper (if they still make those), but a modern AL post will be lighter and probably work better ( will also be able 5kg lighter), I don't see a lot of 1" (25.4mm) posts around though, so it may be tricky to find.
Any comments?

I'd replace the seat post with a micro-adjust one as it allows much better adjustment. Here is one in black:

and here is one in silver:

Any bike shop in Canada can order you a similar post from Cycles Lambert or Norco (two large canadian distributors)- you will probably pay between $15 and $20 CAD for it.

Your probably right, I'll check with a shop this week, or several at the bike show next weekend....
She could be off center on the bike, or need to get off center. Also might be a leg length discrepancy that cuased the problem. That has happened to me.

They ship to Canada so just add the item(s) to the shopping cart and see what the charge is.

Have you tried Urbane Cyclist on John St., Wogster? When I made a mess of the clamp on my seat post I picked up a replacement for $5.00. It's the clamp style not the micro adjust style like CACyclist linked.

I just took a picture of my seatpost clamp thingy -- I don't know if this is similar to the kind you are looking for:

Anyway, I bought the same clamp for $5 at Urbane Cyclist.

Stupid question - But how often does the Mrs ride? Aren't all seats uncomfortable untill you get used to them??? My Specailized came with a cushy seat and i thoguht it was very uncomfy at first - not it is ok.
Could it be that she hasn't ridden enough? Forgive me if these are stupid comments/question - I just started riding in June - so not sure I am qualified to speak.

I think all saddles take some getting used to especially for a beginner rider. Expensive doesn't always mean better, it's just a matter of finding the right one. Also, just because it's comfortable for you doesn't mean it will be for her.

Yeah that's the one, except the the one we have, one of the clamp pieces is bent, and one of the the bolts is partly rounded off, from me trying to get it tight enough to keep it from slipping....:notamused:

The only stupid question is the one that is never asked....
How often does she ride, not often enough, and that's part of the problem, since we got the trainer in late January, I have put over 100km on it. she has put on, a grand total of...
Wait for it.......
This is really good......
Almost there .......
6km, yeah I know, this message is longer....:D

Sounds to me like she just isn't that into riding. If she were, she's be the one online looking for recommendations for a better saddle fit, not you.

You may be correct there, but she was the one who wanted to get the trainer, so go figure.....

Man finding the "right" seat is tough! Wspecially so if you're not riding very much. Maybe it's the seat, maybe it's the trainer, maybe she's just really into riding very much. Don't force the issue. You should have no problems finding a replacement seatpost.

Every roadie will say the same thing (unless they want everything carbon): get a thomson... the adjustment mechanism is awesome, it's light, it's strong etc.
I have two, if I got another bike, I would have another thomson. Check ebay for reasonable deals, figure out first whether you need a setback or not, and how long you need it to be.
