I may have made my chain (SRAM PC 58 8 Speed) too short. Can I just put back the links that I removed? Or does this SRAM chain require a new pin?

Only Shimano chains have one time use pins, and even those can be reused in a pinch.

I agree with Demon. 5-6spd chains used to come apart and go back together with rarely any
trouble, but 8-9spd chains are more lightly built and seem to be easier to damage. Risk is that
replacing the pin you can bend or munge the link such that the chain loses its integrity and
comes apart. If done with care and with close attention to how the pin is going through the
plate and how far it is pushed compared with other links you will probably do ok. Worse case
you trash a link and have to buy a couple of master links and use them to splice in the length
of chain you need. If unfamiliar with the technique Park Tool has a good tutorial on their
website. Steve
