Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Value of Raleigh Grand Prix

I came across an English Raleigh Grand Prix that was completely original. Had to replace the tires and tubes due to rot, though. Steel lugged frame/2 steel quick release wheels, SR alloy cotterless crankset/Weinmann center pulls/Suntour d/t ratchet shifters with Suntour VGT and Spirt front derailluers. I completely went through the bike and cleaned it up. It looks absolutely great. Any ideas what I can sell it for on Craigslist ? I am sure that I can get more for it on Ebay, but I am leary of going through the Ebay process. Thanks in advance for your ideas.

I think that bike has a gas pipe frame. That along with steel rims caps it at about $100 in great ready to ride condition. But it depends where you live. Steel rim bikes have pretty limited value.

I have a 1977 with similar components I believe. The metallic brown paint was immaculate, but I had to fix pretty much everything else as I don't believe the previous owner ever greased it(But somehow never scratched it). I planned on selling it, but it's actually a really nice riding bike so I added it to my collection. It's surprisingly light and agile. I would gladly give $75-$100 for one in this condition if I didn't already have this one. Maybe more if it was a better color.

The Raleigh Grand Prix has nostalgia on its' side. THere are a great many boomers out there who have fond memories of their GP when they were in school. That might help increase the price. But its still a lower end bike with steel rims. I sold mine for $50 a year ago in "as is" condition to a college kid who picked up four bikes from me. I never could get that kink out of the front steel rim. I would estimate it could bring $100 if it rides well, has new tires and so on.

Those values sound about right. I am in the process of setting one up with an alloy wheel set from a donor bike because it has such a nice paint scheme. The down tube shifters give an aura of a better bike, and I figure with the wheel upgrade it should be a $125-150 bike come riding season.

Thanks everyone. I was thinking that in the condition it is in, the value of an English made bike, and with new tires and tubes, I could get about $125+ for it. I see daily posts for 70's era French road bikes with cottered cranks, Simplex derailleurs , and Mafac brakes for between $75 and $125 here.

Doesn't mean those bikes are selling.

If you're convinced you can squeeze that out of it, hell, try it. We're not stopping you.
