I had a lot of fun at last year (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=395521)'s inaugural April Twenty Observed International Oddball Ride (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=407028), and I think a lot of others did, as well. It was the biggest turnout I've seen at a ride.

http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/7744/group11d.jpg

Recumbents! Foldies! C&V'ers! Unis! Tallbikers! Hybrid-riders! Tarckies! BMXers! Commuters! Mountain bikers! Oddballs of all color, shape, and creed! Who's up for a second go of this?

Like last time, this should be a flat, slowish ride to accommodate the wide variety of bikes in attendance.
At this point, it looks like the weekends of April 11-12 and May 9-10 are the most open, calendar-wise, though I'm certainly open for suggestion.

What sayeth thou?

Count me in! Either date is fine as long as we book it early enough to plan around it.

The tough part will be deciding which one of my oddball bikes to ride???

I have the Copperopolis RR on the 11th, so the 12th is good for me. I put dropbars and a new wheelset on my fixed gear so I'll (try and) follow Pete.

:P Kidding. I'm guessing such a date would limit attendance. Bummer.

Maybe the oddball ride could coincide with one of the Sunday Streets SF (http://sundaystreetssf.com/) events?

From the web page:

Sunday, May 10: Waterfront Route in the Southeast Sector, highlighting the San Francisco Bay Trail, which is celebrating its 20th Anniversary in May. From AT&T Park to the Bayview Opera House, along the Bay.
Sunday, June 7: New route for 2009 through the Mission, engaging new neighborhoods in the Sunday Streets movement.
Sunday, July 19: New route for 2009 through the Mission, engaging new neighborhoods in the Sunday Streets movement.

Didn't see this thread earlier. Last year's Oddball was the ride I was most sorry I missed! And the craving for ever more oddness simply worsens.

Unless no dates work and we wait for next year.

How's the weekend of May 9/10 sound to everyone? Calendar looks fairly clear for that weekend. Is that enough forewarning? If not, maybe early June?

Knubby
04-24-09, 05:31 PM
Even though May 9-10 is Mother's Day weekend, it may work for me. What's the route?

04-24-09, 05:36 PM
Even though May 9-10 is Mother's Day weekend*throws hands in the air*

Oh for cryin' out loud!

Sheesh, okay, June it is then, I guess.

What's the route? We are at the whim of Mr. Pete for the route.

I definitely can't make June 7 as that is my next concert. :(
(But please don't plan around my schedule, it's always so up in the air with my travel.)

Okay, I'm going to tentatively call Sunday, June 14. Yes, I know it's Flag Day. Too bad. :P

I'm in. June 14th sounds good to me. I'll put together a route with some shorter bailout points. Probably the same start 10am at the Seal statue behind AT&T park.

I'll try to make it this time. Although my "odd-ball" bike would be my mtb. Does that count?

Does the bike have to be oddball or my own Oddball nature enough?A standard bicycle will be welcomed, but there will be frowns and dismay.

A standard bicycle adorned oddly will likely wipe away the tears, though!

Martin lives right down the street. He's the semi-famous Palo-Altan you see riding up and down Bryant. I've talked to him a few times on his way to Whole Foods. I think his plan is to ride his Highwheeler cross-country.

I am still in. Any idea what the route will be and what the pace will be like? I can only cruise at 8-10mph on the unicycle. If that's too slow or if the route is too long I will bring my new Swift that should be delivered Friday :)
