This could end up being a very fast first 51 kilometers. Since the teams with climbers are going to have to make sure there is not a breakaway group that isn't reined in before the main climb. Then there is nowhere to really regroup for the climbers. It will be an uphill TT to the finish.
A stage like this, to me, seems to minimize any typical race tactics that usually go on. Then again, if no one attacks during the first 51km of the race it could be rather boring. But given the short distance and the single climb I think there are going to be lots of attacks.

cyclingnews.com reported that Armstrong will be in Italy shortly to reccie the Poggio for MSR and this stage of the Giro ... sounds like Lance is preppin' to become Italy's next great road warrior!

Wait, this is an actual stage? I hadn't looked through the Giro stages yet this year, and when I saw the image in the first post I just assumed it was an uphill TT (though quite long). Wow, I can't wait to see that one.
Also, the first week of the Giro this year is awesome. Two mountaintop finishes in a row, and stage 7: 207 km uphill the entire way, followed by a 37km descent to the finish.
IMO, Giro stages are far more interesting than Tour or Vuelta stages. It seems like the organizers go out of their way to provide some interesting stuff each year.
