I have a black deep v in the front with a machined sidewall. I like using the machined version better than a non-machined wheel for my front brake. I was wondering if anyone has used a sharpie to color it black. Also if anyone knows it will eventually rub out or not.

I use a sharpie to help true my wheel and a brake pad will rub it right off. As will oil and probably even water.

No matter what you do, the brake pads will rub it right off.

I was thinking of doing something like this on my rear wheel. The wheelset I have included a MSW on both the rear and front wheel, but I don't run a brake on the rear wheel so I was thinking of seeing if a colored sharpie would blend it into the color of the wheel. We shall see..

You can attach a sharpie to a spring loaded bracket that will apply rim ink just after brake. Keeps rims lookin fresh even after emergency braking. Swap colors for moods.

The sharpie won't look the same as the color of your rim, especially in the light. It would probably look worse than the worn off paint itself.

For a black machined rear wheel, that will never see a brake, you could use a strip of electrical tape along the machined brake track. I did that on a rear wheel before, and was seamless from 6ft away. You could not tell that there was electrical tape on that rim.

For exceedingly obvious reasons you should NOT attempt this on a front wheel.

sharpie looks janky on a MSW. it looks purple in the light. put your wheel in a truing stand, or you could even leave it on your bike, spin it, and spray it with spraypaint. works like a charm and you get a more even coat/color that won't come off. especially if the wheel is already black, you'll never be able to tell.
