Bicycle Mechanics - What chain for 3-speed cassette?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have an old Motobecane childrens road bike with a 3-speed cassette (err....freewheel?) on the rear, and a double up front.
Would an 8-speed chain work OK for this setup?

Depends on age I suspect. If the 8 speed chain seats on the sprockets fully it should be fine. Otherwise try a wider chain. The bike appears to be too new to require a 1/8" chain which is what original derailleur 3 speeds used pre WW2 I have read.
Great, thanks for the help.
