As I don’t want to end up on the Numbskull of the day part Deux (II) thread and I have no clue, I thought I’d ask first. As I mentioned on my recent thread about my 88 Cannondale, I am thinking about selling it. But I have no idea what to ask for it? This is not a for sale ad, but I really have no clue what to ask for this bike.

Here’s a link to my original thread with pics. Thanks in advance for your help.

That's a very clean example, nice bike.

As for price, in my market (Philadelphia) I could get $250.00 to $300.00 for that bike if all the cables, tires and tubes were new, wheel were true and everything worked properly. Many people in this area are fond of older Cannondales, especially nice, clean examples like your bike.

Tires and tubes aren't new, but they are in very good shape. I'd probably pay to get the wheels trued. Thanks for the input.

This 91 SR400 went for $300 in Raleigh, NC. However there were a couple of changes, addition of 7 X2 brifters and a carbon fork. It never made it to CL, selling by word of mouth.

Your bike is in outstanding condition and should sell for around $250 maybe more. Once you hit $300, you're in competition with used entry level, SORA brifter equipped bikes. So, in my estimation, it will be hard to get more than $300.

Yours is such a clean example, and the Superbe components have the bling effect, that I would post it locally to craigslist for $400 to see what happens. No one will put you in the Numbskull thread for that. If no one bites, lower it a bit.

You might get more money by parting it out and listing the components and frame separately on ebay. However, that takes more time and effort, and items such as your wheels probably wouldn't fetch much.

All, thanks for the input. It's up on CL now at $250. We'll see how it goes.

If it isn't already sold, then the market is officially very, very soft. $250 for that bike is (or was before the crash) a great deal.

4 answers thus far. So it looks promising. I just want enough to cover the cost of my new ROX 9.0 for my Tarmac, and to get the bike to someone who will actually ride it. :)

I had to look up Rox 9.0! That bike for a tiny computer? I'd never make that trade! Anyway, you have it fairly priced, and it'll obviously move quickly - and as you say, you're getting someone else on the road. Kudos for that! Enjoy your speedaltitempcadenceheartratemeter!

Yeah, I'm sure some will think it crazy, but honestly, I'll never ride it. And if someone else can enjoy it, then I say go for it. I'm just not that into the old bike thing.

That's understandable. Doesn't bother me a bit; I like people who add to the supply stream of vintage bikes!

+1 I would buy that bike myself for that price. A Cannondale with Superbe Pro for $250 is a nice deal. Don't be surprised if the buyer flips it. It looks more like a $400 bike to me.

At the same time, much as Roccobike pointed out, it can be hard to break the $200 mark on Craigs List around here. The buyers kind of disappear at that point unfortunately. But I am selling a bike right now at the $275 mark, and I have gotten a lot of replies and I show it tonight.

And unfortunately, buyers paying in the higher rangee ($300 plus) expect to get a brifter bike. So even though it is a nice bike, it could take a while to get "full value" out of it.

I just looked at your other thread, that is a super bike for $250 in excellent condition. The first person that looks at it will grab it.

It's sold. To someone who will flip it. So at least I know in the end that someone will be riding it, and I get my new bike computer so it's a win-win. I'm sure I didn't get top dollar, but I got more than I'd have gotten if I just left it where it was in the basement amongst the spider webs. :)

Thanks for all your input everyone.
