Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - Fenix lights -- which blink?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have two Fenix L2D lights, which had been my main illumination but are now used in blink attention-getting mode, now that I have a P-7 to light the way.
But which blinky lasts the longest?
Will I get more battery life out of the SOS or out of the hyper-blink?

Put some fresh batteries in.
Use a stopwatch or timer.
Measure one mode, then repeat.
Or run both torches back to back.
Most modern digital watches have timers built in them.
Or you could look at a clock.

No, it isn't....
General Mode: 9 lumens (71hrs)
47 lumens (13hrs)
94 lumens (5hrs)
SOS Turbo Mode: 180 lumens (2hrs)
Strobe - DURATION NOT STATED

I'd assume the SOS mode doesn't last much longer than 5 hours since it does run at 94 lumens. Same for the stobe in Turbo mode which runs at 180 lumens.

Never assume, it makes an ASS out of U & ME.
You can back off there Dr. Who. Thanks.

I would recommend just using sos mode, the strobe is a little intense for using on the road..

ye I find the strobe is too fast and would actually cause more problems than just using it on steady.

Assumptions are made every day in life. Looking at the web site I would also hypothesize "assume" the same as Editz did. Having a Fenix L2dQ5 light and doing a visual comparison of the light output on strobe and SOS I do believe those values are correct.
As far as the runtime, I do not believe the SOS or strobe modes are stated. If you look at the way they have it listed it appears they use the -> for a separator between values. So I do not believe the strobe is listed as having a 2 hour runtime. :)

I would agree with you on this. I no longer use my strobe when riding at night, I had to many negative comments shouted at me while riding.
But then again I do not use my sos mode either. I just use the L2D on turbo and a P7 single mode. I am not concerned about run-time as I do not ride long enough for either light to go dim before I get back home.
If your ambition is to get chased by first responder vehicules, use the SOS :D.

The problem with the SOS mode is long pauses of darkness. But it might be better than the hyber-blink. I've used that for a few days, and I'm growing concerned about what it is like on the receiving end.
I wouldn't want a driver to go into a brain seizure and take out a mailbox ... or me.
Or you could look at a clock... :50: ... and all you kids, offa the lawn!

Since you have two, why not turn one on to SOS and the other to strobe and see which lasts longer?

I use the Fenix P3 and find the SOS mode is too slow between flashes. I don't know if it's a universal SOS flash, or just uniquely slow to Fenix, but I prefer strobe mode.

I suggested that 12 posts earlier.
