I do not have any magic fall in love moments, but I like to think my proposal was pretty unique.

When I met my wife, I was pretty heavily involved in sail boat racing. Crewed for a couple of different boat owners. One of our first dates was on a race boat. She took to it quite well and we ended up sailing together on two different boats on a very regular basis.

When I decided to ask her to marry me, I wanted it to be with our sailing friends, so I decided to have my proposal put on a spinnaker. I got one guy to donate on old solid white spinnaker. I had a friend at a sail loft cut out the letters from red sticky back nylon to stick to the sail. My roommate and my brother helped me lay out the sail and get the letters on it just right.

I planned my proposal to occur at a big charity regatta where most of our friends would be in attendance. My parents where there, as were hers, riding on a boat in the spectator fleet.

As we sailed back into the marina after the day's racing, the boat owner, who was in on the plan, suggested that we try a "new spinnaker" before we but the boat away. We tied on the new sail still in the bag and hoisted it to the head of the mast. My wife to be was our spinnaker trimmer and as the sail filled she realized what it said and just sat down on the deck of the boat in shock.

Horns began to blow from boats in the spectator fleet and we sailed into the marina with that sail flying. It was a very cool day.

BTW, she said yes.

Reader's Digest Version.

I'm at work and an inmate walks up to show me a picture of his girlfriend. She's gorgeous. Same night she is there to see him for a visit. My post, I'm in charge.

They are sitting at a table, I see her crying so I bring Kleenex. She smiles, later he gives me some lame excuse as to why she was crying. I clock out, go to my car to go home for the night. There she is asleep in her car with no place to turn for help.

I take her home. She changes into something more comfortable and my blood pressure triples. (She is beautiful, looks like a very young Grace Kelly)

She spend the next three days, two nights at the house and the terriers fall in love with her. (She passes the Airwick test)

We become good friends but she wants more. We discuss her future and it looks like I have a pretty houseguest for at least the next month.

She gets a phonecall the third night.

Just like that it was over.

She writes me a week or so later and tells me how much she misses us. My heart tells me to go get her but my head knows she is too young and impetuous. So I don't.

Almost six months later but her fragrance still lingers in the house.

My proposal was interesting.

We took a trip to the Bahamas. Chose a less popular island for privacy. Went right after a major Hurricane decimated the place, so the newly built tourist facilities were abandoned. In fact, between us, the B&B owner and staff and local businesses and residences, we may have counted about 25 people the whole week we were there.

Every day we walked about a mile down isolated palm tree lined roads to the perfect pink sand and azure water beach, accompanied only by a cute stray dog who would run and play in the water with us. This went on every day; we had the entire beach to ourselves and it was heavenly. I decided to pop the question on the last day.

When the big day finally came, I had it all down. Ring hidden in beach towel while walking to the beach, transferred discreetly to my shoe holding the towel corner down once we got there. No one in sight, romantic frolics in the water. So far so good.

When I finally went for it it was kinda like Ellen declaring her orientation into the airport mic. After 4 days of absolute tropical isolation, during perhaps the most important moment of my life, as I was asking "will you marry me?" a person dressed like the textbook stereotypical awful 60-something tourist walked slowly by, about 10 feet from us, on a huge beach (we were sitting about 1/2 mile from the water, not like they had no room to pass:()...wearing a pith helmet, sunglasses and madras shirt.

She said yes. We had a pretty good laugh. And never saw another soul after that on the beach.

I do not have any digital images. I have a coffee mug with a picture of the boat on it, as well as a hand painted box with the boat on the top. The sail sits in the corner of our closet to this day and it was hanging at the reception.

Listen to Dire Straits Romeo and Juliet. that is what I am living now. we are back to
the handholding stage and have met just once (last weekend) in 23 years. and we
are gonna have a second date.

to put this in other terms. I haven't slept much for 12 days, I have dropped 7 lbs because
I am not eating, I just recently stopped crying in my pillow half the night from happiness I have
that we are reconnecting...she was the love of my life and I always wondered...and never forgot.

now the dream is real....I am sobbing as I write this....

Love story eh?

Twas a rainy day in the city. There were thunder clouds in every direction and the lightning show was intense. So, what's a college aged kid to do? The liquor cabinet was full and the fridge had tons of fresh fruit. Hunch Punch and a party! So....that's what we did. Started drinking around 4:00. By 7:00 most of us were pretty ripped. That's when the doorbell rang. One of the frat brothers had invited a friend over and asked her to bring her friend. I hit it off great with the friend. Not even close with the friend of friend, who was quite attractive btw. Too make a long story short (and to stick with what I remember of the evening), I ended up going home with the friend that night. Woke up the next day having no clue where I was.
4 months later I ask the friend of friend if she wants to go somewhere and study for finals. She says ok. Friendship leads to long term relationship. Been married 20 years now.
