Here it is, a suburban car parking space that has been converted to bike parking. There are also on sidewalk bike racks within a few yards. This could happen in other towns when more people begin using bikes for transportation. When I stepped out of the shop there was a big red suv in the adjacent background parking space but it left before I could get my camera out of its bag.

That's cool, where is that, exactly?

It sends a nice message, but it would be nicer to have some street erosion and have the sidewalk extend out into that space. That looks kind of junky and will cause some issues when they go to re-pave the street.

Having the sidewalk extend out will not only look nicer, but it would be more pedestrian friendly. If they mirrored it on the other side of the street it would give a comfortable place for people to cross the street. Although I suppose it would cost a lot more to do that.

Regardless, thanks for posting the pic. Nice to see things things like this happening.

More than you want to know....

The place seems like it tries to be responsible with a no cell phone rule, open library, bike parking, cloth roller towels in the restrooms, some anti-bottled water signs. The way we LCF'ers are, I think we could find something to criticize. Its bikeable from Arlington or anywhere in the DC area, but a few blocks off the main bike route from the Mt. Vernon trail to the King street station. If you're in that area on a Saturday morning swing by the Methodist church to see if they're having one of their periodic pancake breakfasts. Unless you're on a diet.
