They're nearly gone all together, but some of them still live to this day, and they're kinda annoying to top it off. They might as well go down in history, but they are still haunting us to this day.:roflmao2:

A number of my clients pay by check. I like it.

Faxes are great, too. Perfect way to get licensing information to state boards (like of massage therapy... :) )

Perfect way to get licensing information to state boards (like of massage therapy... :) )That's AEO's point....you shouldn't have to use such antiquated technology to get license information. A scan and an email or other electronic look up ought to be fine....if they would only get with the times.

you do realize there are retrogrouches out here who still like to write letters with fountain pens and wind mechanical watches and dial rotary phones and reach down to shift and take months (if not years) to break in that Brooks saddle/Rawlings Heart of the Hide/Levis 501 shrink-to-fit/Schott Perecto/filofax/luggage/reading chair/cordovan shoe etc etc etc

was that a snobby reply?:o

The issue with scanning to email is that it is not nearly as convenient as a fax machine. The best tech, not the newest, wins.

Even better...most work copiers now can scan and email an item directly. And as far as home users go, I'll wager there are more people with a scanner and a computer with internet access than there are people with fax machines at home.

No, I mean to send in my information to the state board of massage therapy. Gets them my information, including certificates for continuing education, so they can renew my license a couple days before it expires on the 27th... :innocent: :thumb:

I still don't understand why this wouldn't be something that could be done just as easy or easier by email. If its documents, then scan and email. THEY should get with the times to be able to accept the info that way.

the difference between those and a fax machine is that a fax machine was made in the era of 'clunky and ugly' styles.

oh, late 1980... just ugly electronics from that era.

ahh - gotcha. The stuff I mentioned has stood the test of time, style wise.

It's interesting tho - I think most people like some old things which they find quaint or fun, even if they appreciate modern advances in most other areas of their lives.

For example, I know a married couple who are super-tech savvy. Both make a living doing desktop publishing or other computer work, have all the latest personal electronic gizmos and so forth. But they have a rotary phone and the guy likes 60s era Mod suits, parkas and vintage Vespas...pretty cool. I think we're all like that to some degree.

Or we split the difference and buy an all-in-one machine that prints, copies, scans and faxes. A lot of medical facilities don't have access to scanners, but they all have fax machines. My ability to send and receive faxes at home has been helpful on numerous occasions.

That's the whole point though.....things are stifled because of these places that rely on old technology and don't change. Many of these places have probably had the opportunity....I'm sure at some point their fax died and instead of thinking of a multi-function printer, they went out and bought another fax.

The annoyance of the penny is not so much the penny itself, but the jerks that allowed such insane inflation.

uh oh. I wear levis 501s, like brooks saddles and downtube shifting and have 3 fountain pens.
my scuba equipment is new state of the art, I'm not messing with old stuff there.
Bikes? I have ergo equipped bikes and friction shifting bikes.
I'm a bit of a tech geek and try to keep the PCs up to date.
I do think Fax still has a place, on my pc, none of the paper and phone line transmissions.
