Hey Guys,

I started a thread a while ago because this year I'll be travelling to America from the UK with a friend of mine to do a road trip. At the time I was only thinking about it but now it's a certainty and we should be flying over in early July.

We're hoping to fly to LA and buy a van/truck that will double up as both transport and accommodation. The only thing is, with both of us being UK nationals and both under 25 (I'll be 22 and my friend 23), will we be able to get insurance and does anyone know how we'd go about it?

Also, is there anything else we need to think of in terms of tax etc? I've looked online as much as I can but it all seems a bit confusing!

Thanks

Love the avatar, j. foster....it's my favorite PF album.

I don't know about issues buying the vehicles, but if there is, maybe you could get a BF friend to help out by buying it for you (with your money) and then 'giving' it to you. This is assuming your paying cash.

Sorry...can't help with the insurance question. I have no idea. Maybe you should just call a local (to LA) insurance office of a big insurance company like Progressive or State Farm and ask them.

Yeah it has to be my favourite album too. I love the whole thing from start to finish.

Thanks for the suggestions on insurance, I've e-mailed both companies so hopefully they'll be able to help out.

Did you ever email my mate in Portsmouth? He and his wife spent a year over here and bought a jeep and toured quite a bit, so he would have the answers for you I believe.

Most insurance companies will be happy to answer your questions if it could mean they make money off you. So my suggestion is to call or email some insurance companies that could possibly offer you coverage.
