Picked up the Roubaix this afternoon (a day earlier than promised) and just had to take it for its maiden voyage. Did about 10 miles and with the hills around here, I am already glad I got the triple. Being out of shape after the winter layoff accounts for some of it though.

But the Roubaix was comfortabe and I am looking forward to many many miles. Pics attached.

Lower the nose of the saddle- Flip the stem and stop making me jealous.

That is one bike that is going to get a few miles in this year. Looks very nice.

The rear rack- It looks similar to the one I have on the Tandem. Mine is an "Amoeba" but has taken 10lbs weight in the top bag for 100 miles offroad so it should be able to take the weight of the 2 slices of Pie you will need on the first ride.

Well you went and done it. Kiss your wife good by and enjoy your long rides. I really like the looks of the Specialized bikes and your looks beautiful.

Just a side note: I put the B17 on mine this morning and I really like the ride. I'm thinking about riding with the B17 and wait and see if a brooks Swift comes around at a descent price.

Anyway, I think you made an excellent choice, have fun.:thumb:

No, I am 60 but isn't it at the high point now? If I flip it won't I be reaching and bending over more?

I know, but I usually carry a small bag with my "stuff" in it. I may remove and replace it depending on the ride. No way to put a conventional rack on, no braze ons, so thought I'd try this set up for awhile.

Nice bike TimT - congrats & good luck with it.

Maybe I'll see you out there sometime if you ride the Standish State Forest loop. Still have to finish some start-of-season maintenance on my bike, but I hope to be riding this weekend myself.

Enjoy.

Just my two cents, of course, but maybe there's a better way? Try looking at some of the Carradice or Berthoud bags at wallbike.com? Jandd makes some nice stuff too.

Then again, if you are happy... who's to tell you different? :)

Congrats on your Roubaix - I love mine. I'm sure you'll enjoy riding it when winter in your part of the country ends - about July, right? ;-)

About the "flip the stem" comment, and the "No, I am 60 but isn't it at the high point now? If I flip it won't I be reaching and bending over more"? reply:

Your stem is in the down position now. If you flip it, you will gain about an inch of bar height, maybe more.

I just bought a Roubaix, flipped the stem up and put the 4degree wedge under the back to raise it up.

Have fun!

Very nice bike, very nice.
As another posted, not too sure about the rack thing but that is just me...and well the other guy too.
I like the color makes me wish I had gotten black instead of blue on my cannondale. Enjoy the miles!!!!

Nice bike bike Timtruro. Keep your stem where it works best for you. The stem on my Roubaix is as low as it can go with all the shims are above the stem and I'm still comfortable. Now that yellow warning label near the bottom bracket, how long are ya gonna leave that on?

Myles Standish is only about 5 miles from my house. Not sure what entrance it is though. It would be on Long pond rd. Are the trails paved in the park. Have not been able to find any details about the park on line.

Yes, it is, but the bike store owner said that as long as you don't overtighten, this will work fine. I hope he is right.

Good catch, took it off this morning. Looks better and much faster without all that added weight!:roflmao2:

There's 4 settings with that stem. The one your on and 1 more as you flip it over. The other 2 are made by flipping the insert that's inside the stem, or that goes on the steering tube. Have fun.

Beautiful bike. Looks to me that you could flip the stem up if you want, but it looks best like it is. Go for whatever feels best.
Must admit I'm not loving the rack. I've never cared much for seat post racks, especially those with straight support beams. Some have a curved support beam that brings the rack a little lower and looks a little better, like this Topeak "V-type" rack.

Very nice bike. I too like a rear rack, but was never willing to go to a post mount due to the height. I carry a lot of junk sometimes in the winter. I don't like high "dead" wight (as opposed to "live" weight which is the rider). Probably derived from my mountain bike riding. I went with a cyclocross frame for that reason as some come with rack eyelets. I paid a weight penalty though, but at least I got a good titanium ride.

Dawg, I really don't see the elegance, strapping those on a road bike v. the bag I will use on this seat post rack. Although, mounting and dismounting with the rack and bag may present a slight challenge to these old joints. Thanks for the suggestions, I do like that sage colored bag, too.

Neither is very elegant compared to the bike without them. I would assume that neither would be used except when needed for a particular mission. A small bag just big enough to carry a spare tube, a patch kit, keys, cash and a multi-tool is what I usually carry. But when it comes down to it, you've got to go with the solution that appeals to you. Other opinions, such as mine, don't really matter when it comes to how to outfit your bike. And a nice bike it is.:thumb:

Only one thing about that pannier system you use- and it is a matter of the mounting height.

Get it as low on the post as you can. The higher it is- once loaded you will feel the Higher centre of Gravity and the lower the pannier is on the post- the less leverage and strain it will put on the post.

Timtruro

Gotcha, thx. I won't be using panniers on this bike just the small bag that fits on tops and attaches with velcro straps around the rack.

I stopped using my Tarmac as a commuter because I couldn't find any bags I felt would work well on a road bike but this may just do the trick. thanks

I have the Topeak removal rack for my mountain bike but never thought to put it on my road bike; when I commmute with my road bike I just may give it a try.

I'll admit, I was going to attach my Topeak MTX rack to my carbon seat stem last night but got a bit edgy thinking about a possible break in the post but after seeing yours attached also I may go ahead and give it a try. I have the Specialized dampening inserts in my post so it seems a bit more fragile then a stem without them.

I love my Roubaix! Mine has around 12,000 miles on it. You will quickly discover that you can ride 50 or 60 or even more miles without any bike caused discomfort.

Get that mileage up!

Plan on getting my mileage up, rides of 20 and 24 miles this week, now sidelined with a bad cold. Want to do a couple of 40 milers soon, then 60 and ultimately a century this year. Last year was my first real season biking a lot. Did 1,136 miles last season and since I am now retired, my goal is 3,000.

A beauty for sure. I had all intentions of buying the red Roubaix but changed my mind as I was making the purchase and went with the black. They are both good looking rides in my opinion. How long are you going to leave that yellow warning label on??

How do you likethe way it rides so far?

Tim,
So far the ride is great. Rode a Cannondale T600 for about (10) years... I like this ride much better, the Roubaix is lighter and quicker. :thumb:
