Fifty Plus (50+) - Eight days and counting till I am legal.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Yep, only eight more days of 49, and then you all are in trouble.
I am wondering if there is anything I need to start prepping for to prepare for the big 5-0. Most of my hair is still with me and almost everything still works. Should I get in a box in case things start falling off? :twitchy:

Definitely, in eight days your hair will fall out and more things will begin to hurt. Hey, you've been posting illegally all this time. Shame on you youngster.;)

Your going to need a bigger mailbox. The AARP will be adding to your collection of mail. The days of just credit card offers will be over.
Do you have any unique flavors of pie in Costa Rica that you could offer up as part of your induction?

Keeping ones hair is easily done. All that it takes is a simple operation to eliminate the organs which produce the male hormones. There are few side effects. For instance, your beard will stop growing. Some guys miss shaving so they do their legs.
Every time that I see a man in our age group with a full head of hair, I wonder. If he shaves his legs, I KNOW.
Uh - I just noticed how much hair cowchip's avitar has.

One of the true tragedies of living here is they don't know what pie even is, except that which is left by cows, of course...
And you all thought I lived in paradise, didcha?

You figured anyone who could be as grouchy as I can in P & R must be an old geezer...
I would say I am as young as I look, but with hair nearly white, I might have to join the 70+ group... at it isn't because I am a blonde, either.

"The Big Five-O"
Oh, the big five-o, Uh-oh, it hits you like a bomb
Your libido is waning and your memory is gone
You can well-nigh say goodbye to get-up-and-go
How-de-do, welcome to the Big Five-O
The things you used to do all night back when you was twenty
Still reappear and bring you cheer but twice a year is plenty
Your mind says "party" and your body says "whoa"
Grind your gums, here it comes, the Big Five-O
(Bridge)
You got sags of ever-growing size
You got bags underneath your eyes
You got a spare tire from all those beers
You got hair growing out of your eeeeears
You got a pain in the torso, achey-breakey bones
Dizzy spells and moreso gallstones
It hurts for a week whenever you stub your toe
Tough luck you can't duck The Big Five-o
(instrumental break leads to 2nd bridge)
You work less before you take a break
You play less. It's hard to stay awake
You put less strain upon your heart
The only thing you do more is faaaaart
YEOW, stay away from women, stay away from sports
Is your hair all grey and thinnin'? You bet your boxer shorts you better
Watch your diet, eat real slow
You got all you're ever gonna get, careful not to work up a sweat,
Don't get upset, take another tagamet, you're gonna regret you ever met
The Big Five-O

Okay, the evil day has arrived. This group is now being polluted by the likes of me. To celebrate the day, instead of me chucking rocks out of a stream, I had the youngsters do it, explaining now that I am officially an old geezer, even though I am stronger than any of them, I am expected to be fragile.
This worked fine until we go talking about bike riding and it turns out that they think 2 kilometers is a long ride... and they know I do 80s. Oh well, I am the boss so I still supervised.
stapfam
03-20-09, 12:32 PM
That is not supervising- You have learnt one of the skills that comes with age- It is called Delegation.
Happy birthday by the way- and you will have to get a new trend started in Costa Rica now. Pie is a necessity on this forum for any true member so start delegating and train some-one to make one.

Hhhmmm, that first prostate examine perhaps! :D If you're like me you'll probably keep most of your hair at this point, in fact you may grow more but unfortunately it will start coming out your ears.
I just turned 50 on March 1st so I'm a newbie welcoming you in; the water is just fine. My wife told me this morning that I looked sexy as heck, so I jumped on my bike and peddled even harder on the way to work knowing that all those cycling miles had paid off.
Happy 50 to come.

Speaking of "prepping", read Dave Barry's article on getting a colonoscopy (http://www.miamiherald.com/living/columnists/dave-barry/story/427603.html), and then get one. Welcome to the club!!

Back in the fall, I decided I was tired of cutting my hair - or traveling into town to have it cut. So, now it is growing. It is long enough now to tie back in a pony tail, a little bit more and I am going to be Gandalf the White! (too little grey to be Gandalf the Grey...)
Thankfully, my wife loves it.
