Seeing they've had a few mentions recently, and knowing that such 'interest' will fade in the coming weeks as we discover something else to talk about, how about posting a picture or two of your fixed gear ride :D

I bought her brand new in the early to mid eighties - I can't remember when but the shop closed in 1985. The frame was either a rebadged Japanese or Italian frame or it may have been made here in Oz by John Abeni, the bloke who owns the Europa name.

Steel - probably Reynolds 351
She came fitted with Ofmega R cranks and Ofmega derailleurs front and rear with Suntour friction shifters. Italian alloy handle bars and stem. Ambrosia wheels with sealed hubs - still darned good wheels actually.

The conversion has been progressive - it started with a basic suicide conversion and went from there and is still ongoing.

Currently she features:
Brooks B17 saddle
Those same bars and neck
The original diacompe brakes because I can't afford some decent dual pivot jobs - I need a 70mm reach.
Aero brake levers from the nineties.
The orignal Ofmega R crank - I keep looking at that and wondering whether to replace it during the next round of fiscal irresponsibility.
Novatech hubs - good quality but not super high.
El cheapo 'Shining' rims - the wheelset was built by a local wheel builder to a budget - the set cost me less than a single 'decent' wheel and it should be noted that when a mate went to him with the same request a month later, the builder declined to repeat the deal :rolleyes: They're not bad wheels actually for a workhorse bike.
Gearing - 42x16

That old carrier is the one I bought and fitted in the eighties - aluminium - unobtainable now ... in this country anyway. She used to wear mudguards too but they're now on the commuter.

The future?
New crankset and bb though I can't for the life of me come up with a reason why.
Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub.
Velocity Fusion rims.
Tektro dual pivot brakes

She's got cheap pedals fitted at the moment but I'm going to rebuild and refit the pedals she came with originally. I'm not using them now because they have a tag that sticks up on the outside - my current shoes overhang that tag but I reckon I'll grind it off and refit the pedals along with her original toe clips. You can buy decent pedals in America but not here and by the time you import them, they're damned expensive.

So that's the Europa you hear me yapping about and which features in my avatar :D

1980 razesa which was built with 1979 campy super record which is now in boxes.
running a 46/16 use it sometimes in the winter, when it iis raining or hill sprints

This bike is a SS. The bike is a 80's big box Raleigh that was found at the curb waiting for the rubbishman. (I'm wondering if the lugs might mean it was a better quality bike) It took the double crank apart and used the big ring with the riveted on trim. The gear is 52 x 19. I added new brake levers, Brooks B17-N, bars and Brooks pedals from my early 70"s Super course, new cables and painted the bike with spray bombs. The buffing wheel cleaned up all the shinny bits nicely.

I repainted it over the winter but I'm dissatisfied with the result so I'm going to strip it down to bare metal and start over. Anybody have one of those round tuits? As soon as I get one I can start over.

It's a Raleigh Technium mountain bike frame with the canty studs shaved. 39 x 17, Surly hubs, CXP 21 700c rims, Ultegra crank, Octolink bottom bracket. Handlebar is a chopped, inverted and repainted Bontrager road bar. It has a 105 front brake with a Salsa cross lever.

No coffee shop cruisers here. First is a mid-1970's Colin Laing track bike I got in 1979 as part of a trade-in deal when I worked at the LBS. Originally a brown/white 2-tone, it's repainted and re-badged with Colin's later "Colian" decals. It's a "Heinz 57 grouppo" of period correct and updated parts. When I got it, it had been drilled for brakes.

Next is a Univega Gran Premio conversion, currently set up with fenders for winter/early spring riding. This one gets a lot of miles on early season rides of 20-50 miles.

But my garage door is dark brown, so that would have been worse! Will try to remember to re-photo the fixed gear bike against the concrete wall . . . which is kinda tan ;).

PS: When I bought it in '82 I was told it was a '77. Since checking the MASI website and the serial number, I now know it was built in '75 in Carlsbad, CA.
