So a buddy of mine is dismantling his TT bike to sell. He hasnt been able to sell it as a one piece, but feels fine with selling it as parts. Being the great friend that he is, he offered me the very new, and little-used, Dura-Ace and Ultegra mixed components on the bike, for an amazing deal. I snatched them up (upgrading from Tiagra/105 mixed components, and will be replacing the sora components on the GFs bike with my old stuff). So now I'll have a DA crank chain rings and bottom bracket, and Ultegra shifters/deraulers/brakes, all for less than half of what I could find an Ultegra group for (more importantly, the GFs bike will stop driving her crazy because it NEVER wants to shift!!!).

Now here is the question.. Last season, I had the TERRIBLE wheels that came on my LeMond Tourmalet. I took them off, and bought a set of Ksyrium Elites, which I love. My buddy is willing to sell me the Shimano WH-7701 wheels off the bike for $300.00!!! They are GREAT wheels, but I dont really need new wheels.. then again, this is a price I feel I cant pass up!! What would you do? Should I go ahead and sell the Ksyriums, and snatch these babies up? Should I just buy his outright.. because hey, its never bad to have another set of wheels lying around?? Decisions, decisions..

Do you race? I'd deffinently buy them if you do, keep the elites as training wheels and pull out the 7701s for races. Otherwise...the Elites are solid

I dont race yet.. but am on the verge of pulling the trigger.. I have been getting into shape this season, and am feeling/biking much more strongly than I did last year (which was my first season). Its just hard to justify after buying the Elites less than 1000 miles ago.. but I dont think I'll ever see a price like this again.. lol

Always a great idea to have a second set of wheels around.

I agree with others who say that having a second pair of wheels can't hurt. However, I wouldn't expect the Shimano wheels to take the same amount of daily abuse that the Ksyriums can.

I have a friend, who is an A Grade racer. He finished an overall second last year in the Criterium season, racing on Elites, on a bike equipped with Tiagra! This is just to show that wheels don't make you fast (compared to what everyone else was riding). However if I had to choose between the Shimano's and the Elites, I would stay with the Elites. The Shimano low spoke count is fine for riders with support vehicles but if you break a spoke out in the "sticks" it will be a long walk home.

CHEERS.
