Where can I get parts for just a front brake? Everyone seems to sell things in pairs.

You can buy a single caliper & lever set but if I were you I would look a for a deal on pairs of each and save the other set for your future project.

I have the cheapo tektro brake set and I love it

The lever's too big though so I picked up a small Odyssey monolever.

Not even just used. I picked up a Cane Creek TT/bullhorn brake lever for pretty cheap at my LBS because they had split up the set for some other fixed rider who had come before me.

I want to get a single Profile Design Quick Stop 2 Carbon reverse lever, but no one will sell it to me. My LBS doesn't have it and bikeisland won't split the pair.

Any ideas?

i replaced my crappy bikeisland tektros with a set of used dura ace calipers from ebay. mounted the front and holding on to the rear as a spare or for a future project (i've read it's not too difficult to modify rear calipers to fit the front). levers are a bit harder to find, especially if you're after the fancier stuff. if you want nicer bits you may just have to suck it up and cop the pair.

Hey guys great info on this. Thanks for posting that link to the bikeisland lever I am probably going to buy that. OP- there is this service here in Austin called the Yellow Bike Project which is sort of a junkyard for bike parts. If you don't care about looks, you can find a cheap caliper and cable at a place like this and then just buy a cheap lever for about 10 bucks on ebay or some bike website.

I want an all black lever and caliper, so I am going to buy the bikeisland one, but just so you know, there are these types of charity projects in various cities.

I also looked into taking the rear brake off of my road bike but it didn't seem like it was going to fit on my FG fork and I would have had to buy a new lever anyways. It seems to me that finding a small little cross lever (without paying for it) is definitely the trickiest part of rigging up o a fixie brake.

...but one of the reasons for going single speed is that you can use better parts because you don't need as many.

or you do it because it is the only way that you will have enough money to have a bike AT ALL haha. Not necessarily the case with me, but I am definitely working on a VERY low budget to build up this second bike. But yeah, hopefully I can put nicer parts on my bike one by one in the future. For now, I just want to get it on the road and that bikeisland brake is looking like a good option. I mean I'm sure the pads are for crap, but it does have a lever that works well w/ my setup and its black
