Tonight I was preparing the Aegis for a morning ride. While using my Topeake Joe Blow Pro pump, I had the pressure up to around 100 psi when the $%#^ air gauge lens blew off into my face! Didn't hurt, and I was wearing glasses at the time. I put the rascal back together and of course I couldn't get more than 80 psi in the tires afterward. Then the lens blew off again.
My name is Gus and I killed my Joe Blow Pro pump! He got hisself wrapped around the nearest tree (several times!!) Sooo, instead of an early morning ride along the northern California coast tomorrow, I will be looking for a new pump. The one I find will not have a gauge on it and it ain't goin be a Topeake plastic piece of %$#^!!
I know awhile back there was a recall on some of the Joe Blows, but it didn't include the pros. Anyone else have a problem like this with the pro?
No, but I've had a prob w/ two different Planet Bike pumps, a floor and a mini model, that I have had hella time gettin' the Schraeder nozzle to work, and once the little ball valve that does the switcheroo between the two different valve nozzles jammed, too. Don't replace your Topeak w/ one of these!!!

I thought the recall covered all the Joe Blows... including the Pro. I seem to remember it was for exactly the accident that you encountered. I have a Twister.

If it was for all models, that would be precious to send the aforementioned pump back in it's mangled state. I did that once with a tape deck. Wrote the manufacturer a long screed about thier crap quality component. Never expected to hear back from them so one day I flung the sucker down the basement stairs then proceeded to tenderize it with a bat.
A week later they sent me a letter apologizing for the problem and offered to exchange it for a new one.
I mailed out a box of twisted metal and circuit board shards.
I got a new one. I can only imagine the expressions on thier faces when they opened that package.

If you would have contacted Topeak I am confident that they would have replaced the pump or the gauge.

You may want to contact them anyway.

A Google search, and a look at www.cspc.gov shows only the Joe Blow COMP being recalled.
Gus, I would definitely contact Topeak, tell them your story, and see if they won't make good on the pump.

Yep, same thing happened to mine. I was up around 100psi and *POW*, the lens blew off and the guage faceplate folded double, pointing straight up. Mine was around a year old at the time, and the shop replaced it under warranty, no questions asked.
Topeak has been good to me, too. Same pump, I was having trouble with the smart-head and the schraeder valves on my wife's bike. I asked their tech support people about it and they sent me a another. No fuss, no muss.
serfas makes a pump that's laden with steel.http://www.serfas.com/pumps/pumps_01.html

I came back from the LBS here in Ft. Bragg with a new Specialized Air Tool Comp. I'm impressed with it. Seems Like it is much more robust than the JB pro and it was cheaper.
I had that pump for just over two years; I guess it was time to replace it.
