Rode GMR, 40 miles with about 5,000 ft of climbing. 4 mile up the 20 mile climb I ran into a bud heading down from the 8 mile point. Lots of riders turn around at the popular "shack" after an 8 mile climb with 2200 ft of climbing. Today I decided to do the entire 20 mile climb while I had the chance. My bud (Pinoybentrider) was on a floding bike. Guy is loco! He rides his fixie, folders, recumbents up the mtn road. OK, not loco, just a strong rider. He turned arond and rode up with me to the shack. his second time and he did well. Didn't look tired at all. We took a couple of pics thenhe headed down and I climbed on.

At mile 12, I wondered why I wa out there alone and almost headed back. But I'm training so I continued. Couple of miles later I had the same feeling. Had to convince myhself not to Wuss the ride. Then my legs felt stiff and tired, almost turned around again . But I figured if I made it ona bad day, I could do it on a good day.

I have another friend, a double rider OCCRRick (BF'er) that rides GMR after long rides on the previous days. He says he rides and does it just as training for the double to keep himslef moving. I thought of his training statedgy and thought, yeah, just keep going you big sissy! So Iget to the top of the 20 mile climb and wow, only 4 minutes off my best time. I feel better now!:D

Nice ride, sometimes the most punishing rides are the most rewarding.

This is a nice ride. I've seen riders fly up and others bring a picnic basket! All kinds up here and they all love it!:D

Yes, this ride was punishing today. But I think it was all mental which is part of the training!:thumb:

The mental part of riding is harder to overcome at times than the physical. Your ride for example, you thougt of a few reasons why you shouldn't finish all 20 miles. However you fought it and did it, awesome job.

God I wish I had the opportunity to ride those beautiful mountains. I have been riding a lot of miles and doing long rides, but until I have the opportunity to do some climbing and really feel the burn I just won't think of myself as living up to my full potential.

That's right Jess! I'm not sure why riders avoid the mnts. They are great, just takes a few rides to adjust to the mentality and style. I hadn't done the entire climb in a while and look what happened to me today, and I've done it a million times:D......I know next time, hopefully nextweek will be much easier meentally!:thumb:

OK, not a million!:p
