I came into this RB-1 a couple years ago. I believe it's a 1989 and a 56cm. It definitely has some paint blemishes but it's sound other than that. Everything is original including Suntour GPX group - only tires and bar tape have been changed. Any estimates as to what it'd be worth?

The RB-1 has a cult following. If it is in good shape, it should fetch $500 or more.

Thanks. One other question; is the market for the bike w/ original components or just the frame? I had been contemplating upgrading this frame but if the value is in the original equipment, I may sell and put it toward a new ride. I've got about a grand to sink into a new road bike and have seen Ultegra build kits for about that (wheels would still be an issue). My sense is this frame fully updated would compare favorably to what's out there in the shops for around $1,500 (most likely something aluminum w/ carbon fork/stays and 105). Any opinions on that? ps - I'm a weekend warrior type; 20-30 mile touring rides, once or twice a week.

It's worth more, the more original it is. If it's got all its original components, then look for between $600-$800 for the complete bike. Frame alone? $200-$300.

+1 This is not a generic vintage Japanese bike. This is one that is sought after. The less original it gets, the lower the value. You are better off doing such an update on a mid level Univega, Lotus, or one of the Japanese Schwinns.
