How important is this to you? I am 5'11" and according to the competitive measuring chart I should be riding 40cm width handlebars. But they seem a bit to small for me, I am going to go with 42cm.

for my flat bars. i put on my grips, moved them until they were comfy. marked them with a sharpie, then used a pipe cutter and BAM! perfect fit.

you need to look at your shoulder width and personal preference, not your height.

I have one handlebar at 56 cm, ( a moustache) and one at 52 (flared drop bar). Handlebars are cheap enough that you can play around.

if you choose risers, i'd say cut them 13' WIDE SO they look trick as hell.

You seem to post on every thread with the most ridiculous things that don't help anyone. You want to be funny and quirky go to tarckbike and troll over there!
OP- test out a couple widths to find what you like. I have risers that are cut to 40cm, drops on my road bike at 40, the fixed runs bullhorns at 44 so its really a matter of preference and what you're gonna use them for. if you buy from your LBS I'm sure they won't mind jumping on a few bikes with different widths to give you a good idea on the differences, they are minute but noticeable.
