Why do you want caliper brakes? Canti's or V's will give you much better tire clearance.

have used both. hate the feel of cantis, yes i know how to adjust. however, would go with a rob roy or san jose and suck it up. just not a fan of bd, so motobecane uno is out

which canti brakes have you used? not all are created equal.

tektro 720, avid shorty, ect. i think calipers modulate better

generally you're right. my favorite set up is paul neo retros for the front, with their touring canti's in the rear. brute stopping power in the front, and very nice modulation in the back. Also gives good heel clearance for dismounts.

Get a pair of old Mafacs off Ebay, once you have those set up with nice pads, they're enough to make you fall in love with canti's again.

However setting them up is enough to make you swear off them forever.

I have Continental Contact 32s on my MarkV right now and I have some room to spare.

i'm looking at one right now with a 700c + 25mm wheels; a 32 would be insanely close to rubbing the bridge, i'd like to see how much clearance you were able to get.

combine them with the ball/socket brake shoes from velo-orange and some mathauser pads and the set up isn't that bad at all.

I've seen some awesome steamroller setups with big tires. I've also seen some awesome Surly Crosscheck's set up as fg that have been equally as awesome.
