This Saturday I'll be leaving for Las Vegas for my friends wedding, and won't be returning till the following Sunday. Within the last two weeks, I've lost around 5 to 6 lbs. I did this by increasing my riding in distance (from 16 to 25 miles), intensity, and frequency (1 to 2 times a week to 3 or more). I'm not a strict dieter, but I do try for lower fat foods and less calories. I also lift weights twice a week. My goal is for another 15 lbs. However, with this week long trip, I know I can easily gain that weight back.
I know I'll be drinking (alcohol) & eating alot. Anyone have advice on how I can indulge myself without going overboard? Are there any gyms that people know of? I'm staying at the MGM Grand, but I do not know if they have a gym/workout area since their website has been down. The only planned "exercise" is golf (will be riding, not walking).
I'm in trouble, aren't I? :o
Thanks!
Mike
PS - I know I will be back in my routine once I return, but I really don't want to take a step back.

For less than $150.00 you can box your bike up and fly it with you as an oversize piece of luggage (last time I did this it was $60.00 each way), and block out a couple of hours in the am to ride. Another thing you can do is pay a daily fee at a local gym if your hotel doesn't have one (they probably do), and do some interval training on a stationary. Intervals will allow you to get a training effect equivalent to a 2-3 hour ride in less than an hour.
Edit: There are also some pretty good MTB excursions within2-3 hours drive from the city... ;)

According to this there is a fitness facility with cardio and weight equipment...

I already have one piece of oversized luggage... my golf clubs ;)

Ahh, thanks. I just found out the their site is up from a friend, however I can't get to it from work, which is odd. We must be having some routing problems.
Well at least the gym part is taken care of, however, there's still the food and alcohol I'll be indulging in. Any other advice? :)

Low cal beer? :D
I had a little problem getting to the MGM site from work, too. It took several minutes to load.

Why not CALL the hotel and find out what's in their fitness facility, and then ask if they can refer you to a fitness facility in the area? In Chicago, some hotels have affiliations with the local clubs, and people from the hotel can use our gyms if they bring their card key and pay a small fee.
You may want to also go to your gym if you belong to one and find out if they have an affiliation in Los Vegas. My gym has worldwide affiliations, and before I leave town, I always check with my gym and see if they have an affiliated gym or a branch in the cities I'm going to.
If you're real desperate, consider walking everywhere. Don't use a taxi or bus for anything. Just walk to whatever destination you're going to. It always works for me, and I'll always eat whatever I want, and I always come back a few pounds lighter regardless.
Good luck, and have fun!

Thanks for the advice. I don't actually belong to a gym. My good friend is a Physical Therapist and has machines and freeweights in his office. We work out together twice a week :)
The problem with walking everywhere, is that I'll have a beer in my hand, lol. That's what I love about Vegas! Again, thanks for the advice all... I'll do my best to maintain what I lost, but as Buzzbomb said, I'll have to remember I'm on vacation as well ;)

Strangely enough, I tend to eat better when on vacation. I tend to eat more fruits and vegetables. With all of the gorgeous buffets in Vegas, grab a plate full of fruit.

Well I'm back and gained about 8lbs :(
I even worked out 4 days (stationary bike and weights). Oh well, back to the drawing board...

Rent a bike and ride around Red Rock canyon.
Blue dimond bike out post is a great place to ride from.
