Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Kilo tt chain noise help!

first time post : ) I got my new mercier kilo last week and right away swapped out the rear wheel for a mavic cxp a friend gave me, got a new dura ace lockring and had the lbs put it on. now the rear wheelish makes noise when i ride. the shop put the chain on pretty tight so i loosened the slack and still the noise!

i'm pretty sure the wheel is in their straight but still a constant noise of the chain. Is this normal? or could it be just that the bike is new that it needs to wear in? if so how long usually does that take? this noise is driving me crazy haha i just need to forget about it and ride.

Any advice?

try lubing the chain with some chain oil... solved my problem

Dura ace cogs are a bit thicker, pushing the chainline out a bit. I believe it makes the chainline 43mm if I'm correct? Maybe because the chainline isn't dead on your chain is breaking away from the teeth on the cog at a different spot on the chain-- causing some scraping to occur.

If anyone disagrees please go ahead I'm just speculating!

looking down the teeth in the cog look pretty dead center in there maybe a little close to the inside but i'm no expert on this stuff. Is there any fix for it? should i get a new lockring?

Sometimes parts (Chainring, Chain & Cog) need a few miles to break in. After the break in period they get worn at the same rate and the noise level should drop.

okay so maybe just deal with the noise for now, and hopefully it goes away

are you using the kilo tt or kilo tt pro?

Did the cxp your friend gave you have a new cog on it or did you reuse your old one

loose the chain more till you have at least 1 inch of pushable downwards slack~ + lube. or.. clean that rear cog, might be full of rocks~

It didnt have a cog so i just went to the shop and had them take the cog off the mercier wheelset and put it on along with the dura ace lockring on the cxp. And my bike is like a week old and had geez hmm less that like 5 miles on the original wheels so i dont think the cog would be too messed up.

Okay i'll give this a try don't think i've tried it with that much slack. i'm pretty sure the cog is clean but i'll give it another shot. it sure sounds like there are some rocks in it :(

The stock cog on the Mercier is messed up the moment you take it out of the box. Do yourself a favor and invest in a decent one, chances are it will make it quieter but with most new bikes the sound you hear will be new components and will go away with time.

surly, EAI or dura ace, 3 economically, structurally sound cogs~

after switching the cog to a euroasia with the rest stock, i had about the same level of noise as fully stock. when i changed the chain, chain ring, and bottom bracket and got the chain line and tension on the button, it has been eerily, almost impossibly silent. though there were multiple variables involved, id look all of what the others have said and also into servicing or changing the bottom bracket, the silent, or not so silent, purpetrator.

It's just a noise don't fret my friend. Starting to ride fixed makes you much more aware of what is going on and it seems like everyone who starts riding thinks their bike is going to explode because it makes some noise but trust me it's fairly normal with a new bike. New parts take some time to break in and mate properly, the noise will decrease with time. Don't replace it if it ain't broke. Just ride ride ride ride ride.
