Folding Bikes - 31" or 28" Flite Suitcase

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I need to decide this afternoon on the 31" Flite Suitcase or the 28" to take a Birdy on a plane.
The 31" Flite L+W+D of 64" is just over the limit most airlines have. Has anyone ever had a problem with this"?
The 28" Flite may not fit a Birdy. Has anyone tried it?
Alternataives would have to be mail order and I don't have time for that.
The Flites are available locally but they only have one 28" and if I want it, I need to decide this afternoon.
Thanks for any advice

The Birdy is an easy fit in the 31" Flite. I needed to put a lot of clothes in the case too, to stop the bike moving around.
There are pictures on this forum of Birdys packed in 29" Samsonite Oyster cases, but I don't know if there's room to take an extra inch off... Someone who has tried it might know.

I've seen a post about the generous fit in the 31" flite (might have been yours) I've also seen the photos in the 29" Oyster and reached the same conclusion: It might fit in a 28" but there won't be much room to spare.

On a closer look, I concluded that at 19" outside dimension of the 28x19x11 28" Flite is too small so I bought the 31"
