Road Cycling - Just got my speedplays

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My speedplays came today from performancebike.com.. I installed them and the cleats and took it around the block...WOW! these things are great! SOOOOOOOO easy to get in and out of. But i did feel the "ice cube" feeling when i stood up on them and that was a little scary but it went away after about 2 blocks of riding. The X2's are just awesome, they are soooo simple

i have the frogs and i like them a lot too. they are exteremly easy to get into and out of. sometimes a little to easy if you ask me. i like to hear a definite 'click' when i'm in. sometimes i just place my foot on the pedal and i'm in without really realizing it. and sometimes i notice i'm in only partially...

I had a similar issue with the Frogs when I had them. I wish the Frogs reported a bit more about the engagement status. Still they were fine pedals. I'm running Zeros now. I prefer pedals like Speedplays to ones from say Look because I like the double-sidedness.

do the zeros or x2's engage more solidly than the frogs?

From what you guys describe with the Frogs, definitely. I get a solid click engaging, both audible and tactile.

Yes. There is a definate audible and tactile feedback when you engage and disengage with the Zeros. The Frogs are a little more deceptive.
I find it takes more of a conscious effort to get into my Zero's than my Ultegra SL's. Not all the time but enough to notice.

I love my Frogs. My knees love my Frogs too. Easy in, easy out, and you can dance the twist on them and still be clipped in.
