"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - +30 mm. Aluminum Rim?

The front and rear rims of my Soul 2.0s have been knocked out of true (past the point of being able to be fixed by re-truing the spokes, there's actual rim damage. I'm going to talk to sean about replacements or see what he can do, but that's a different story) in different incidents.

Long story short, I'm looking for a new set of rims.

Criteria:
- more than 30 mm. section (no RR1.2s, CXP 33s, or IRD/Niobium Aeros, plz)
- aluminum (don't think I can justify carbon rims until I upgrade to the 3s)

Can you buy just rims like this? The hubs and spokes are fine (other than a couple), so I'd rather not buy a whole new wheelset. Thanks!

The only rims over 30mm I know of are H+Son, which are heavy and crap. Other than that, there are the American Classic 420 and Soul S4.0, but those are complete wheels. I've heard that Sean doesn't sell bare rims, but you could call American Classic and ask about theirs, since I hear they sell replacement rims for people who break theirs.

You'll probably need different length spokes if you're switching to a different model rim.

The 30mm deep v is already like 580g, so this guy will probably be more like high 600's and maybe over 700. The reinforcement bridge will kill you on weight.

I might consider a b43 on the rear for a training set. (i would also race on them because i'm poor)

As far as I know, you can't get replacement rims for AC420's unless you're doing warranty replacement.

FIR Sc350*, Gipiemme Tecno 716 (limited distribution here, but available in the UK), Dodici (from VintagePista), DRC UFO Speed, FIR Super Rialto, Campagnolo Atlanta, American Classic AC420 (is available as a rim only in Europe), H+Son (this is aimed at street fixsters).

Those are the ones I can think of. All or them are very hard to find. They lost favour with the onslaught of carbon fibre rims and largely went underground. Urban fixed wheel riders have bought up most of the remaining rims, but they are also the ones causing them to come back from the cold. Giant and Felt are stocking 40mm deep alloy rims on some of their TT/Track bikes, but you can't buy them separately.

Some of the above suggestions are ignoring the fact that the OP wants to rebuild on existing hubs and therefore needs a specific number of holes. I am unaware of any Shamal rim that came in a 24 hole drilling.

It would take a little extra mathematics to lace a regular hub to a paired spoke rim. However, I think I've seen Rolf wheels with 14, 16, 18, 20, and 24 spokes. Not sure about 28, though.

The 30mm Kinlin should be on your list. Honestly, the aero difference between this rim and something like an AC 420 has to be next to nothing. You're talking about a couple mm.

The Velocity rim is interesting, but at 750grams it's a tank. I'm not a WW, but geeez.

It's up to you, but I think there are some reasonable options without going to carbon.
