Lots of things going on in my life right now and they are all good. (Just knocked on wood)

Today marked the fastest average speed I've ever had on a ride. I averaged 16.8 mph over a solo 56-mile loop. The ride only had 1500 ft of climbing (1500 feet of dropping too) I've done this loop before and this ride beat it by at least a mile. I've seen my averages rise a little in the last month though. I am pretty happy to see speed improvements.

I am also excited because my wife and I are in the process of purchasing our second home. (going to rent out the other one)

The new house is closer to my work, which is good and bad. I had been commuting 2 days from the old house which was a 13-mile round trip, but had some climbing and required the road bike rather than the single speed. The new place is 8 miles round trip, but is flat and will allow me to commute everyday and not have to make it a whole thing.

The best part about the new place is that we are now close enough to grocery stores, restaurants and shops that we can ride our bikes to get anything we need. It also has a gate from the neighborhood to a MUP that provides 20 miles of mostly paved car free riding.

I am hoping to go several weeks at a time without even using my car. In preparation for my car free lifestyle I got this shirt from cafepress:

Well done. The next step would be to actually sell your car (and rent one when you really need to). Think of what you would save in insurance, etc.

Awesome job! I know that setting goals really helps you succeed. The goal i'm working on right now is to do a 100k solo ride in under three hours. I haven't done it yet but i push myself hard to do it.

Sometimes i set them rather high, on my last work evaluation they asked me "what are my career goals". I put down "to ride in the tour de france" as a joke, I thought they would laugh. They thought it was awesome.
