BMX - Need help from BMX racing guys

I use to race BMX in my youth in Texas(along with a little vert). Well now my son is turning 9 on March 29th and I'm trying to see if he would be interested in praticipating in the sport himself, as I always enjoyed it. But to my question; He is about 4'5 and 75-78 pounds. what would you suggest as a decent starter bike for him. I'm not rich, but could probably swing $400-550 if he is really interested. I was going to take him to the track in Pearland, Tx this weekend, but both races were rained out, so I'll probably go next week. Any help would be greatly appreciated, because if he show interest, I'll probably get him a bike for his birthday.

You could look for a Junior or possibly a smaller Expert sized bike. There's a bunch of good companies that make some sick completes. Here ya' go:

Redline (makes 2 different completes, which are 2 different prices. Both are really good though.)

Supercross
Haro

All of these companies make great starter bikes. Have fun with it.

Thanks minichamp because I am really out of the loop now, but I did know of redline, GT, diamondback from back in my racing days. I used to have a Hutch(that got stolen) and then I had a Titan when they first came out. I did have Profile cranks on my bikes back then and from browsing the forums they seem to be really popular still. I checked out the Intense models and Redline, but I will check out the rest u suggested before I make a decision.

P.S. If he get into it like I hope, I may be bothering you racing guys with questions about part upgrades.

I run Profile's. And they're amazing. I was thinking about getting a Ti spindle, because my chromo one has rust on it. :notamused:

did you ever post a pic of you bike from the "oh Yeeah" thread in the BC thread bc I'd like to see it if so. do you happen to remember around what page it was on. That thread is really long and most bikes in the pages I saw weren't racing bikes. Not that there is anything wrong with that.:)
