Made for a wall with museum lighting.......after I took it for a quick 12 mile ride in 70 degree perfect sunshine weather.

Gold is a very soft metal. I can't imagine that frame is very rigid at all, unless it's an alloy or just plated.

plated, says so right in the writeup.

What would suck is that even the briefest ride likely would scratch the plating off the rear cassette, ruining the look pretty much.

Now, who would buy that thing?

the owner of team rock racing just might.... and then he'd spray paint some black on it.

What are 'Swarovski crystals'? Do they go into a radio to phone home to the mothership?

I find it vary hard to believe that bike is worth that much money. Back in the late 80's early 90's a frame builder on the Gold Coast was gold plating, and they were nowhere near those prices. I know that's about 15 years ago, but back then they were about $900. There's even gold plated folder bikes here in Kyoto and there's a fixie here with crystals glued around the lugs, so I'm calling Shenanigans on this price.

edit... you could buy a Swarovski crystal Kitty Chan purse from McDonalds for 500 yen if you also bought a "Happy Set" back in September.

gold plating isn't so bad, at least you'll never have to paint it to keep it from rusting, it just looks silly, that's all.

I'll take chrome plating, or plain unfinished AL and Ti, especially if someone else is paying for it!

So do I. Gold plating is unbelievably thin. I doubt there's more than a couple of ounces on the entire bike. And the crystals are just crystals, not diamonds. And for crying out loud, they could have at least put an antique brown Brooks Swallow on a $100,000 bike. :p

I recall a recent blog on Bike Snob NY about this bike. I think BSNY put in an order for one as a joke, and the seller hasn't really replied in seriousness to it. It may not be a real offer by the company.
