I hope there's no spinal injury.

Seen worse,I just shaved.Just proves what my teachers taught me when I took my first First Aid Course,40 years ago,a little blood goes a long ways. Other than that when the nurses get the dried blood off ,you probably wont look that much worse than normal, other than an abrashion/fracture to the nose and some road rash under the gauze on your cheek.By the way you should complain to the paramedics that transported you about not cleaning the blood up so you could have looked better for the nurses on arrival at the emerg. I would have! :D

yep, lots of blood vessels on the face and scalp. even small cuts look serious because it bleeds a lot.

Sorry about the crash. I had a broken orbital floor when I was hit head-on by a car in 2007. The recovery from the surgery and repair left funky tastes and smells for weeks afterward.
Smell memory is very interesting.

Ouch....Get well soon!

I did a face plant a while ago...I had a tiny little cut above my eyebrow (a bit deep...probably should've gotten a few stitches) and it was bleeding like mad. I remember people looking at me because the side of my face was covered in blood.

And yeah, next time, have the paramedics clean you up for the nurses...they;re no longer impressed by the 'lots of blood yet still tough'-act. ;)

East Hill22 posts before anyone asked about the bike.

The bike is fine, just torn handlebar tape. I took some photos of the crash site today. After the crash I still had to ride about 3 miles out of the desert to get to help.

Sheesh, I hope you heal soon.
I tried that face stop last year. It wasn't all that effective.

I still have a notch in my mustache from when I did that 30+ years ago. Two black eyes, and half my face was left on the pavement. Got LOTS of sympathy from my GF at the time. I did it in front of an ice cream place with a line of people waiting in line.
How do you shoulders feel?

Heal quick, and get your front wheel trued.

Where's the crash story? What happened?I was on the way home for a memorial service/ride for Brent Thomson(cyclist & trailmaster of www.bootlegcanyon.org ), riding through the desert on a paved path, and I simply rode off the edge into a rock garden. I was about three miles from the closest help, and had to ride the rest of the way home with one eye.

My left temple hit the rocks first, and destroyed my Bell Sweep. When I got to the ER they did some tests to see if i had feeling in my hands and feet, and then gave a CT scan of my head, face, and neck.

Other than a broken nose and fractured eyesocket, all that I needed was 11 stiches and some glue around the eye.

The doctor told my girlfriend that my helmet saved my life. Usually I don't believe that sort of statement, but with how far I was from help, and knowing that I would have spent the next 8 hours out there in the desert, this time I believe it.

I'll post of few photos of the helmet and crash site when I get a chance.
