I finally found a few miles with some decent hills around here so today was my first ride that wasn't completely flat. This morning was legs, calves, biceps and back day at the gym so my legs were thoroughly taken advantage of today. I came home from the gym, refueled, got the bike ready and took off. This was also my first ride where I never stopped to rest. I had to slow or stop for about 4 traffic signals on the way out/in to town and that was it.
24.74 miles
642 ft of climbing (not a lot I'm sure but still a new high)
18.0 ave MPH (New high!)
153 Ave HR (New high I think)
36.0 Max MPH (New High)
1:22 Time in saddle
This was my first ride this year on the CAAD9 and I spent some time swapping out the stem and swapping tires and am VERY happy with how it felt. I was getting frustrated last Fall because I couldn't get comfortable and today I felt equally as comfortable as I do on my cross bike. The C'dale is going to be getting a new saddle though very soon because I think I'm in love with the one on the Fuji. I pushed REALLY hard today. There were only about 3-4 miles of hills with a max grade of 10% but I LOVED climbing and can't wait to find steeper/longer hills. This ride may very well become my daily after work ride. I was trying to keep my ave speed above 18mph and I saw it slowly creeping down on the way back since I had a little headwind. I hammered as hard as I could and kept it at 18.0!
I'm in "the zone" as far as diet and exercise are concerned. I'm eating 3000 cal/day and spike it to 4000 every 4th day. That along with 4 days in the weight room and 45+ minutes of intense cardio 6-7 days/week has helped me burn 6lbs of fat in exactly 2 weeks. I'm at about 20% body fat right now and have a goal to be down to 9% before the end of the year, but hopefully by the end of the summer. That should give me a flat stomach and visible abs for the first time in my life.
