Hi,

I've recently acquired a raleigh competition, but i have no clue as to what a bike like this would cost.

All I know is that it has "GC" written on the brakes, araya wheels, Sugino AS pedal cranks, serfas bike seat, SunTour Superbe derailleur, and its an extremely light bicycle, it has a "555 SL" sticker on it.

I was also wondering what era this might be from.

I'm from the Chicagoland area.

Thanks

I'll take a stab at this one.

I believe the GC stands for Gran-compe. This bike and the components look like it was built in the mid to late 80's. I don't know what parts would have been original but this seems to be a bit of a mish-mash of pretty nice parts. The current condition takes away a lot from the value, it looks due for general maintenance and cleaning. I think the modern saddle probably hurts the value too.

I would guess, and this is only a guess, 150-maybe 200 in it's current state. Some of the parts on the bike carry some value too.

Mid 80s bike, check the date codes for the exact year. In current state: $150, fully refurbished, $225 to $250. I would change out that Walmart seat, it looks way out of place on that nice bike.

Nice find!
