I started on a Bianchi Eros with Mirage(triple) component set. I was happy at the time.
Had a bike built with Record component set(double). I have been riding the bike with Record and got to love this bike.

I took the Eros out tonight and man the components just stink compared to Record. I love this Eros bike itself and it has sentimental value.

I thought of upgrading the Eros but dont want to go anywhere as high as the Record.

What do you think of going to Veloce or Centaur...much difference between the two?
I know they are nowhere near Record quality but are they going to be much better than my Mirage?
I suppose one answer might be to goto my lbs and ask to ride test bikes with the Centaur and Veloce...did I just answer my own question????????

Thanks in advance for any comments.

my old bianchi was outfitted with veloce. it rode just fine. my new bike is all centaur, save the chorus rear derailler. it works just fine as well.

the biggest difference i think between the two is weight. veloce hubs weigh a ton, centaur is quite a bit lighter. they both use bushings in the shifters, you don't get ball bearings until you go up to chorus. centaur brakes are a little nicer, offering you orbital washers to get the pads toed properly. veloce doesnt. not that big of a deal really.

the century gray finish being offered on the centaur line this year is quite nice, too.

Go with Veloce. You will like it and it is not real pricey.
