Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - Video Comparison - PBSF & Vetta TSL-C

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Here's a daylight comparison of the two lights -- hope to shoot one at night later this week.

A disclaimer right off the bat - I'm no video expert. I just turned on the kid's camera and shot this. I have no idea what the settings were or what I could do to make it better. There are a series of scenes that go like this:

1. PBSF on steady from fairly close
2. Vetta on steady-high joins int
3. Move the camera back to about 40-45 feet.
4. Both lights on flash (which is low mode for the Vetta)
5. Both of my Vetta and the NiteRider flashing (the way I run during the day)
6. The Vettas on steady with the Niterider flashing (my night mode)

A couple things I can't expalain. The PBSF on steady still appears to be blinking. The light from the Vetta has a "smearing" effect when it's very sharp and intense to the naked eye. Again, probably related to my ignorance about video.

I want to do a night video but I'm going to enlist some help. I want to shoot from the car while overtaking the bike--a little more real world.

The PB SF is actually brighter then in your video.
All the lights show up bright at night.

Both those statements may be true but the Vetta is considerably brighter than the PBSF.

Vetta TSL - C with battery pack is 24.49. Down from $35.00 I paid which was a bargain at the time.

This light seems like a good candidate for modification. Or rather, at $25 to $35, the price makes it a good candidate as I have no idea about the technical aspects.

Install a different driver that would provide more and faster flashing modes and you get a poor man's Dinotte?

I don't care if the Vetta flash mode is faster, but make it brighter - flash high mode instead of low

This thing is so bright. Your video proves it. I would like to see a nighttime shot. I use the Vetta TSL-C on steady high along with a PBSF on flash mode and my DIY Luxeon K2 MR16, which has a 60 degree spread that fans out in back to provide extreme coverage. It's a (non lethal?) combination.

Yep, I can do one of those.

I'm waiting on some help to shoot the night video. The plan is to shoot it from inside a car as it overtakes the bike.

Here it is...very bright sun shining directly at the bike. I didn't think to ask how you wanted oriented. It you want to see it with the sun pointing towards the camera, let me know.

I shot a night video--gonna put it in another thread.
