Hi,

I'm new to the forums. I'm am interested in finding out if the mid 80's Specialized Stumpjumpers are considered collectible nowadays? Specifically, a 1987 Stumpjumper Comp? I have one, and am original owner. Pretty much totally stock condition except for the Brooks saddle. Just trying to get a gauge on the scarcity and interest in bikes of this era.

Thanks,

TGK

Welcome TGK,
Any of the lugged Stumpies that were made in Japan are very respected and a lot of us old school MTB guys like them! There are still plenty of them around for reasonable prices.
The TIG frames don't get as much attention and are less collectible.
'83-84 seem to fetch the most $$, probably for historical reasons, but an '87 is still cool...
How about some photos of yours!? Do you have the Deore XT "Deer Head" components? Saturae wheels with the Specialized hubs were AWESOME and I stll run several sets!

Here's mine:

Not at all! Send that Stumpy here and I'll take care of it. :D:innocent::roflmao2: Seriously, there is some interest, but early MTBs have not caught the imagination like road bikes have.

Not sure what you mean by the Deore XT "Deer Head" Components. This bike is the "Comp" model, which fell below the "Team" in '87. I may be able to post photos later. Some of the components are as follows;

- Bars - Specialized Team flat black anondized
- Brakes - Deore XT cantilever front, Deore XT U brake on chainstays. Black anodized Deore XT levers.
- Deore XT Biopace Chainrings. (there's an idea that came and went)
- Deore XT SIS Derailleurs & Shifters
- Deore XT Freehub
- Specialized G26 anodized alloy rims.
- Specialized lugged, Uni-crown, CrMo blades and steerer.
- Frame came in white or blue.

Before S.I.S. the non indexed XT group ('83-'86 700 series) featured a deer head image on the derailleurs and thus the group is referred to as "Deer Head".
