I was wondering if replacing a 720g steel fork with a 400g carbon fork on an old 531 frame would lighten the front end so much as to cause any balance problems such as shimmying, due to the front being too light for the frame's initial design.

Also, which steerer is stiffer: 1 inch carbon or 1 inch steel of the same length?

PS. Anyone else finding this web-site loading a bit slow over the last couple of days?

It's hard to imagine losing 11.4 ounces will have any negative effect, especially on a frame that isn't uberlight to begin with. What wheelset will you be riding?

And the site's been loading fine for me....
