Hello,

New here, but I have recently become interested in an old road bike I've been riding around at school.

My father rode this bike when he was in college. He does not ride it anymore so I took it to school. The registration sticker reads 1975, but he probably had it for a at least a few years before that.

All pictures can be found here (http://webdisk.berkeley.edu/~tommyatkins/Bicycle/acamera/acamera.html) (1.9 MB).

For those with dialup or just wanting to skip to some particular images:

Front View (http://webdisk.berkeley.edu/~tommyatkins/Bicycle/acamera/images/front%20logo%20balilla%20brakes.jpg)
Rear Dropout, Derailleur, and Cluster (http://webdisk.berkeley.edu/~tommyatkins/Bicycle/acamera/images/Rear%20Dropout.jpg)
Crank Assembly (http://webdisk.berkeley.edu/~tommyatkins/Bicycle/acamera/images/crank.jpg)

The components I can read the names of are:

Campagnolo: shifters, front derailleur, and the overshift shield (so perhaps that whole cluster?). Balilla: brake calipers, brake levers (Corsa 61 set, it seems).

Gnutti : quick release skewer (and perhaps hubs).

Schwinn: rear derailleur.

Not pictured are Paturauo toe clips with Lapize straps. The headset has "OF MEGA" stamped around the top. I cannot find any information about the frame. The markings on the seatpost, downtube and headtube read "A CAMERA" (Italian) which makes researching on the Internet difficult...

I recognize many of these component manufacturers, but I cannot find anything on the frame. I do not know which compontents are original and which have been replaced. If anyone can help me identify this bike or provide any other information I would be grateful.

Looks like a real pot pourri of components. I would guess from the components
that the bike is more like 40-55yrs old as most of the equipment
would have been regarded as seriously outdated even in the mid '70s. Steve

I had spotted a picture of a Camera on this page (http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=30599&page=9&pp=25) and emailed tailwindeddie about it.

His reply was:

Hi Sam,

I saw the picture of your bike and can give you some insight to its origins. The Camera Brand was sold in a little family shop in Northern Italy in the City of Verona, as it says on your badge. I'm not sure who the "A." stands for, but in the mid 80's Lucio Camera Built the Bikes and his brother Giorgio sold them. I bought my first miniature road bike from them when I was 10 yrs. old back in 1972. I later bought a Bianchi in 1976, 82 and the Camera you saw in 83. I don't know if they are even in business anymore but could possibly find out. As for the components, they are not very good. They only might be of value due to their age. They used a lot of Campy Knock off brands like Gipiemme and Ofmega (pronounced offmega). The colors of your bike-Blue & Yellow- are the colors of the city's soccer team.

He went on to say he thinks the bike is closer to 30-45 years old. Any other info would be appreciated, thanks!

Sam

Nice Italian bike that's been stored badly in a corrosive environment, hence the rust...too bad, but probably restorable...I would guess from those cottered cranks that this bike dates from the mid-late 60s. What make are the der's? The non-pantograph front der would also date this bike to pre-early 70's.

I'm sorry, I do not know what you mean by "der" (I assume it's shorthand for something).

Hrm, then I don't know what you mean by non-pantograph (I'm picturing a 2x4 hanging from the ceiling with two pens stuck through it...)

The front der is campagnolo the rear is schwinn. I would think the schwinn is not original.
