Folding Bikes - SAIGON to BANKOK: Pics of Downtube

Hello Everyone,

Its been a while since I've been here. Below are some pics of our east asian cycling tour. We travelled from Saigon, through Cambodia, all the way to Bankok on 2 DT FS (modified).

They both did amazingly well considering the terrain and conditions we went through. The black DT's shifter pretty much died before we got to Bankok due to ceased cables (I replaced the orange's der lines to teflon and it made it (we had many days of rain and sand deluge over the mekong delta, where both bikes were literally swimming in flood)). Other than those problems we were both rather impressed, and so was our entire cycling group (all of them were on hardtail MTB, only two folders out of 14 riders), and the local kids wanted our bikes!

nice trip and pix...do u have a larger version of those pix like in website such as flickr, shutterfly etc.? how long was the trip and how much did it cost total (including airfare)? i'm interested doing a bike tour also in se asia from nyc.

The entire cycle tour from Saigon to Bankok took 14 days, and was around 2K USD. However, your hotel, most meals, local guide, master guide, and some local attractions were included (there is also 2 support "BEER" bus'). So it was well worth it.

We also did a 1 day tour in Bali, Indonesia which was very much worth it, and amazingly scenic!

Cool pics. Thanks for sharing. Did you wash the DT's after each ride? It must have been raining a lot over there since the bikes were all muddy.

We tried to have it cleaned after each ride, but it wasn't always the case. It did rain a lot and very hard for a couple of days (wish I had my chain cleaner and lube) and there was a road after Battambang Vietnam, that was very interesting (we passed by many car carcasses, just left there, the road was amazingly awful), its basically a dirt road composed of holes! That road was just potholes, mud, flood, and made for an ***** and wrist breaking experience.

If it wasn't cleaned, I pretty much just drowned my chain in lube. I was thinking I should have loaded a midcage instead of a long cage, but it would not really have mattered as there were village trails composed of just sand and mud floods where the DT's were mostly half logged in water.
