I left my DT in asia, and will have to ride the silver birdy for a while, until I finish my next project bike.

Has anyone rode on a Birdy outfitted with Big Apples?

I have done a search. I have the 2001 version (and heard they will fit). But my main concern is the folding ability of the front tire, the big apples may inhibit the fold.

I would like to hear from the Birdy owners whom may have tried this already (second choice will be the marathon racers, as I find the ancient marathon plus is damn heavy!).

If yours is the 2001, the front forks probably have the center mounting point for road brakes like my bike which I believe is about a 2002.

On mine, Marathon Racer's only clear this mounting point by 3-4mm

I don't think that I could fit Big Apples.

Another question would be - why Big Apples? The Birdy already has suspension for comfort, so you can choose any low rolling resistance tire you like. I have Big Apples on another bike, and they're a great tire, but for my Birdy I don't see the point of adding a big fat heavy tire. I have Schwalbe Stelvios on, and comfort is still great on San Francisco's potholed streets (oh, and they're FAST).

simply for more comfort...

this isn't the first FS I loaded big apples on, the FS downtube also had them, and the ride was just great! I know some people think of it as overkill, but every rider has preferences...
