Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm looking to get in some good training over spring break. Anyone know of any club rides this eek that will focus on some hill training?
..barring that, anyone got any nice garmin maps for some trainign rides, especially in the Ft Worth / arlingtoon area?

Do the Double Yer Goat perm Greg. Or for that matter, anything around Mineral Wells. I know it's a hump to get out there, but there's Cherry Pie hill, Apple Pie hill, the Three Sisters...all good stuff. Talk about coming home happily hammered, those would do it!!

I was planning to have a go at the Beauty and Beast ride in Tyler this weekend, which will likely be all the hills I can handle and then some.
If you're off all week, consider driving down to the Austin area and riding around a couple of days? Andy White's "Best Bike Routes- Texas" has several routes down there, and I'm sure Austin area folks could come up with a bunch more.
Driving up 35, you go through the Arbuckle Mountains, and I noticed it is a steady uphill for a couple of miles or more in there- pretty good climb for this area. I-35 isn't ideal for cycling of course, but that suggests this guy's ride: http://www.anoutsidechance.com/writings/OKuphill.html
Over in eastern OK/ western AR, you have the Talimena Scenic Drive. Assuming it's not too cold up there, you could probably get in all the hills you cared to do.

Oh, forgot to mention, I've got a good number of the perms mapped out for the Garmin. Let me know what you want.

Thanks Steve. I've done the DYG twice this year. It certainly has all the hills one can ask for, but mostly I'm looking to find people to ride with. Also this year in preparation for my out of state races I'm trying to train more power and hill climbing and less distance. The 200ks keep you from building power.
I managed to find a unknown (to me) section of the trinity trails today that crosses white settlement road, and in a neighborhood beyond that I see "Burton Hill Road." I figured that has got to be good! Turns out to be a nearly 3/4 mile good steep hill that goes between 7-10% the whole way. Perfect for hill repeats.

Ah, got it. I don't have any good hill repeat routes, especially in your area. Let me know if you find some good ones, I'd like to work on power this year as well. Intervals are fun, but climbing is more fun to me.
