Hey guys, I've been reading this forum for a while and love it. I have a opinion question for all of you.

A few days ago, I asked a question about bikes. I got a lot of great answer's from here and went searching for the bike that "sang to me".

Well I found two bikes that really seem decent to me, they have decent mid range components. One is a hard tail, and one is a FS bike.

The hardtail is a Marin Nailtrail with disk brakes for $550 from my LSB

The FS is a Haro Extreme X2 for $649.

These are 2003 model bikes that they are giving me a deal on. The Haro was listed at 1100 and the Marin was listed at 750.

My personal thinking is the Marin has a bit better components on it, but a decent FS bike would always be welcome.

What are your guys opinions? I have mine I think, just looking for what other people think as well

I would go with the Haro, but this also depends on what kind of riding you'll be doing. The Haro is a heavy bike but it's suspension makes up for that.

If your doing mostly trail/XC type riding I'd go with the Hardtail. If you plan on doing some bigger stuff the Haro is the way to go.

I'm gong to be doing a mix of everything really. I convinced my girlfriend to get a bike with me, she ended up loving the Raliegh M80 (it had a great assortment of Deore parts, and disk brakes, with a ok rock shox fork).

The weight doesnt really concern me all that much, its around 32lbs I think on the Haro, vrs 26ish on the Marin. My main riding will be some aggresive downhill trails and items like that so I was thinking of the Haro myself.

Thanks for the replies!

OK, thanks for all the help. I've decided to actually go with the Marin Nail Trail hard tail bike. The LBS ended up giving me a much better deal on the bike, also I got to ride the bike on some really mild trails and I liked how the hard tail just felt on the trails versus the FS bike. So all in all, I figure a good choice, not to mention on the hardtail, most of the components are much better than whats on the FS bike. Next year will be a FS bike for me I think. Pics will soon have to be posted with lots of mud shots for you guys!
