Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - 1993 Paramount MTB, Reynolds- Waterford? Value?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've been wanting to build up a vintage-y MTB. A local shop has a 1993ish Paramount MTB frame. It doesn't have PDG/Series decals, and is apparently made with Reynolds tubing...which places it as late 1993, and made at/by Waterford...? (Going by information posted in previous threads here...can anyone confirm?)

It's listed as having numerous touched up spots, and a slight, shallow dent in the top tube. I haven't seen it in person yet.

Is $200 reasonable...? Too much?

Take a look at this site, maybe that will help sort it out.

$200.00 with condition issues? Hard to say.

Hi there. I'm moving this to the Vintage Value Inquiry sub-forum. Should get better response there.

Thanks...I spent quite some time trying to find any info about the frame, but it doesn't appear to have been a production frame...colors don't match up with anything.

Have you looked through the 1993 Paramount catalog (http://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1991_2000/1993_Pmt_01a.html)?

The MTBs were the Team, R80, RS60, R50, and R30. They all had Tange Prestige tubing.

Yes, that was the first place I checked. It doesn't fit anything in the catalogs, and has Reynolds tubing. Assuming it's 753, as mentioned on one of the Waterford pages...Richard Schwinn wrote that they used 753 for a short time in 1993-1994. Someone here on the forums picked up a 93's Paramount road frame on CL for $75 with Reynolds tubing...

$200 is too much given it is a mountain bike and has a ding in the frame.

I can find nice vintage mountain bikes around here all day long for $100 to $150 max. People just do not appreciate nice vintage steel mountain bikes, at least yet.

I could be totally off-base, but 753 OS was developed for road frames. It has very thin walls and is quite light. I'd be really surprised if Waterford used it for an MTB.

Careful Jim. You're probably on the potential list yourself.

We went to Mexico. Of course it was a good trip. Heavy duty stuff. :thumb:
